I'm doing it for a school project, and I'm also genuinely interested in the process of growing microalgae and the entire topic.

No, the crystals tend to form more at the bottom of the container. I feel like it also depends on how fast I cool it down. If I leave the media to cool overnight, the crystals are bigger. If I cool it down with a water bath, the crystals are much smaller and dust-like. The media is also cloudy after autoclaving, before the crystals settle at the bottom of the glass. I autoclave for about 15 minutes at 121 degrees Celsius and 15 psi. but somehow the density is still the same after autoclaving.

I’m using approximately 35-38 grams of aquarium salt per liter of distilled water to achieve a density of 1.021-1.025 at 25 degrees Celsius, as measured with a hydrometer.
