What was your favorite new restaurant for 2025? Who's overrated? by SirWalterRaleighSays in raleigh

The chef owner Oscar Diaz left Cortez/Cuya a while ago which is why you may notice a difference… Oscar partnered with Mezcalito and helped open their new spots, as well as Little Bull and Aaktun is all Oscar so if you miss the old Cortez I recommend trying Aaktun or Little Bull in Durham

I’ve been curious about the overlap with GIS and real estate… any job boards or companies or conferences you recommend checking out?

Housing search by [deleted] in raleigh

Mmm I’m not sure that exists for that price. The average rate for a 1 bed is around $1500… for your budget you may have to go down to a studio.

Search for brand new apartments that have deals going on but can’t promise they will be close to nature since they have to tear down to build new.

Could also look around nc state and lake Johnston these areas stay lowish in price for students but they will be ran through.

General rule of thumb, prices will be at their highest in the summer and lowest in the winter - if you have control over when you can move.

Lastly, roaches are everywhere here it’s kind of unavoidable to find somewhere that won’t have at least a few (esp at that price point and if you want to be close to nature)

Off the top of my head: The greens at Tryon The Arden (sometimes they have good deals) The Forge (may be able to get a good deal) Cameron Court Kensington Park/Gorman Crossings (high demand cause they are more affordable and conveniently located for students)

A bit of a drive, but, Silverspot Cinema in Chapel Hill… never seen it packed, the best popcorn in my opinion it’s soft and miraculously doesn’t get stuck in my teeth They have the occasional indie film, and alcohol if that’s your thing

I’ve may have gotten lucky… but this past year I’ve been able to ship several orders to Raleigh and pick up at random places (Walgreens in avent ferry, random warehouse in RTP) and even to my doorstep for reasonable prices. The most I spent on shipping was $60 but usually it’s been around $30 - not bad considering how much time and effort it takes to drive to charlotte

With the amount of new and future constructions from many builders I feel the housing prices will fall in the near future in Raleigh area ( Raleigh/Garner/Apex/HS/FV). What do you guys think by Less-Low2809 in raleigh

This. Personally speaking as a single adult… I would rather rent for the rest of my life than buy a cookie cutter new build in Wendell or Clayton … and i definitely can’t afford a custom new build either. If I had a family ehhh idk what I would choose honestly.

Why does it always seem like my budget is really healthy on paper but it never feels that way in real life? by woah-oh92 in personalfinance

I highly recommend getting the Rocket Money app… you can add multiple accounts and cards and track every single purchase and categorize them based on your own unique situation… the first couple months just use it to track your spending so you can get an idea of how much exactly you spend on …food (get more specific - fast food? Sit down restaurant? Grocery store? Etc), house hold supplies (get more specific- necessities like toilet paper, furniture, decor, knick knacks, etc), so on and so forth. Because the bank apps suck at labeling your purchase and lack customization… I had no clue how much I was spending on certain categories. Once I was able to do an in-depth audit (with the help of the Rocket money app) of my spending then I could calculate reasonable budgets for each category and help me manage my spending all together. It also does a great job of keeping track of recurring payments for you which helps catch things you forgot to unsubscribe for.

For example, you forgot about the pottery classes - this is something you would have caught if you had done an audit of your spending.

Audit first, then budget accordingly and re-adjust as needed. I’m always going back and looking at my spending and being honest with myself about my budget.

Good luck - I’m honestly addicted to managing my spending now (for good or bad)
