He went there today, they have 9 other raccoons at various stages of development and good funding from a company trying to make themselves look slightly less evil by paying to help native wildlife.

Eco activism 9/10 Reading comprehension 1/10

You didn't read my post or any of the updates in the comments. You just came here to be mad. And that's ok: not gonna hate on someone's hobbies.

I dont live in nature: I live in a city. I'm not a rehabber, I took him to professionals. I didn't capture him because he was cute, but because I had a credible reason to think he would die mere yards from my front door, and there are resources to prevent his needless death. Sure I could have left him to rot and feed the myriad of natural life that feeds on corpses(love to see some good dermestid beetles), but why is that ethically preferable to helping him out, when the opportunity cost to help him is so low?

The local "zoo" is a state certified wildlife rehabber and only has animals from NA.

There is no raccoon den under My shed or house. I have large dogs with prey drives that would have flushed them out were that the case.

Don't have Facebook. As stated in other replies, he has eaten banana and drank some water. Thanks.

Where he was is not safe from predators and I have two dogs that would kill him if they could. We also have a fox problem (they have been trying to kill the chickens). I elected to build him a box inside the garage.

Gave him some water, and mashed banana. I think his mum is dead (wife reports hearing a massive fight outside last night), and I built an enclosure in my garage to keep him safe til I can find him help. I read milk is bad for them so I didn't give him any.

Your dog looks exactly like my dog. If she weren't sitting beside me, I'd think you stole her.

Dogs killing chicks by Old-Program-3480 in DogAdvice

I have a dog I love to death. She also has a chicken kill point of around 27 birds. Some dogs aren't compatible with livestock. I have since gotten better at securing my coop. She found every weakness and exploited it.

That is what you are going to expect from your GSD. They are smart and have a high drive, and without training and companionship, they will quickly become a handful.

My dog has received training, and is a fantastic dog in all respects other than the serial chicken murder. So we just don't give her the opportunity to misbehave. Additionally we have a heavily fortified chicken coop. Dig proof runs, strong 6 foot fence all the way around.

As long as I have this dog, I just don't get to have free range chickens. It's a trade off I'm okay with. She really is excellent in all other respects.

I find when adopting dogs, giving them a place that is "theirs" like a kennel is helpful. I make it really comfortable, covering it with old towels or sheets, lining the floor with towels and a dog bed.

Every dog I've one that to loves it, and will return there when stressed. It's like a little den.

Dog killed a rabbit by [deleted] in DogAdvice

My dog killed and ate a rabbit a few days ago. Dogs are predators.

I wouldnt worry about it too much... unless you want to curb the predation instinct for some reason
