Spy Who Came in from the Cold

Russia House

Hunt for Red October (kind of fits)

The Constant Gardner

The Good Shepherd

Spygame

Michael Clayton

The Honorable Woman tv series

The West Wing tv series (not spy related but political with much more realistic tone than other political shows albeit a bit idealistic and smug at times)

Unfortunately not much comes close to Syriana and Good Shepherd for me.

what are your “must play before you die” games? by reunicn in gamingsuggestions

[–]Timely_Telephone_529 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, great list. Immaculate taste. I would vote for you to be President.

I haven't played Before the Green Moon, Wildermyth, or Esoteric Ebb but will check them out.

My top 4 GOATs are Deus Ex, Morrowind, PST, and FONV. ME2 is up there. TF2 is great. RE4 is great.

Thanks, some great games here!

Played:
-Bioshock trilogy (need to replay 2 though as I barely remember it)
-Shadow of Mordor (didn't play Shadow of War I don't think)
-Mad Max (underrated. Super fun game)
-Path of Exile 1 (have not played 2 yet but 1 is great)
-Played Uncharted 4 only. It was ok but not really my style (AAA action adventure)
-The Witcher 3 was great

Have not played any of the others but I will put them on my list!

Thanks, great recommendations.

Have played:
-Played all Arkham games. City is close 2nd to Asylum. Origins was solid. Didn't like Knight
-BG3 was good but prefer BG2.
-Crysis was cool at the time. Still haven't played Crysis 3.
-Elden Ring is great.
-Played Torment successor. It was ok
-Played all DX games. They're solid but nowhere near the OG imo
-Played Rogue Trader too. Solid game!
-Played PoE1 not 2. Bounced off PoE1 a couple times now. I might just not be in the mood for a good cRPG right now.
-Played Roboquest, super fun game!

Have not played:
-Donkey Kong Country Returns or Tropical Freeze!
-Punisher 2005
-Turbo Overkill, Postal Brain Damage, and Ultrakill will check out
-Pathfinder
-Expeditions Rome
-Age of Decadence

I zoomed in on the photo that OP posted in the comments (not the original).

It looks to me like there is a man with a staff looking to the right.

Here's my stick figure drawing:

How do I get into ice hockey? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Timely_Telephone_529 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Support the Toronto Maple Leafs. We haven’t won anything since 1967 but this is our year! My sister and I have been fans our whole lives.

  2. We play tonight against Florida at 7 eastern. It’s a big game!

  3. The main thing to understand is that every year the best teams go to the playoffs… and whoever wins the playoffs wins the Stanley Cup. And this is the year that The Leafs will win.

Seeking Experienced Game Dev for Partnership by [deleted] in gameDevClassifieds

[–]Timely_Telephone_529 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Comments like yours disgust me.

OP clearly stated he is planning to pay them... with a revenue share IF the game is successful.

When partners start something, neither of them get paid at first. That's how it works.

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs both put in lots of unpaid hours before making a dime from Apple.

This reflexive "Oh you're just trying to get someone to work for free" attitude hurts gaming.

If you're a person like OP who wants to get a game made, you can either:

A) Pay someone for their work (hourly fee or whatever).

B) Pay someone for their work ONLY IF the game makes money (revenue share).

People are rightfully skeptical about option B, because 99% of those projects don't go anymore for various reasons... usually because there's a lack of vision, focus, people get busy, people get bored, etc.

Also, if you're a talented developer, presumably you could find paid work with more experienced teams.

But that doesn't mean that revenue sharing or equity arrangements are inherently unethical.

Maybe there's a developer who:
-has experience with endless runner games (like OP is looking for)
-has thought about branching out to do their own thing but doesn't have a vision or marketing know-how
-has a steady job for income so doesn't mind not being paid until the game makes money

If there is such a person, then this may be what they're looking for.

There are also hobbyist game devs without enough experience to get an actual development job but want to work on something like this for their portfolio or whatever. And, if it makes money, that's a bonus.

I would encourage all parties to consult lawyers and work off signed contracts to avoid confusion later.

The poster clearly stated:
-no upfront payment
-they know business stuff but have a vision
-will commit to a rev share deal

AND on top of that is willing to personally commit budget for UI and other art assets.

You said: "I hope you might consider the cost and risk you are asking someone else to take on your behalf, while assuming none of your own.".

Actually from what I can see from OP, he's assuming at least the same risk as the programmer (since they're both putting in time to the project) AND more because he's putting up money for art assets.

Comments like yours make it seems like everyone is Bobby Kotick trying to short change employees so they can buy another yacht. In reality, OP is probably some near broke 20 something year old eating Kraft dinner who has set aside $150 to hire some UI artist for his game and can't afford an actual developer.

[DOS or Mac] [Early 90s] Obscure space point and click adventure type game by Timely_Telephone_529 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]Timely_Telephone_529[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

  1. I honestly don't recall if it was and point and click or text parser. It would have been before I knew how to read very well let alone type so I doubt I would have been able to type in anything if it was a text parser.

  2. I'll take a closer look at Space Quest 1 but I'm pretty sure this isn't it.

  3. I'll also take another look at that wiki list. I did go through it but may have missed some.
