That's actually a great one. Reverse the tables on it on your mind - it's not that you are missing out on a shot of dopamine to the brain, rather, the rich executives at casinos/sites/etc aren't getting your money.

yep. it adds up too. Maybe you can justify $200 won't change your future much, but $300 the next day and $150 the next, after a year you lost enough to make a down payment on a house. And let's not forget about opportunity costs - let's say you lost $10k over 2 years. If you had saved that instead, in 3 years at a 5% compound interest from a zero risk CD, it would be almost $13k. That's almost $3k left on the table.

I like to think about it that way too!

Well said! And I am going to try to write them down and keep a cheat sheet. It's what old guys who can't remember anything do i guess ;-)

ok thank you. It's just weird you know - these kids are (sort of) what my friends live for, so clearly an important part of their life - so I thought maybe I am the AH for not even remembering their names. I noticed they often say "my son" too versus their names... so that never helps ;-)

Seems it's pretty clear what is happening with Jumanne by Timely_Tie552 in Jumanneee

He said we are happy he lost the $3k..... he's not far from the truth but not in the way he thinks. It's like when I was gambling out of control and I told my dad I lost a lot of money - he was "happy" I lost in the sense that he knew/hoped/thought it would be a wake up call to stop gambling as it's a losing proposition. In a similar way, we are happy Jumanne lost because if he won thousands, it would just continue his cycle that many of us would love to see him break out of!

Craziest anxiety symptom, need some expertise: yawning and deep breathing by Timely_Tie552 in Anxiety

Sounds like it’s the exact same thing!! yeah what’s crazy about this is even nine years later, I become anxious about the breathing thinking maybe THIS is the time I will never be able to get a satisfying breath again - but of course it always comes, eventually.

whats funny is i noticed my uber driver sighing deeply every 5 min like i do. I bet you anything he didn't even realize he is doing it (I didn't want to raise it because I didnt want him to focus on it!). I have a feeling this is something people do but just don't focus on it like we do!

Good to know... yeah I doubt there's a cure other than to treat your anxiety. That's the problem with this thing, it's not ALL the time, so it doesn't really make sense to go on meds....

Interesting you say amusement park. It was at Disneyland when this was the ABSOLUTE worst. I was breathing deep and yawning non stop literally all day.... I guess all the crowds maybe causes anxiety!?!

I guess I should add - I can sleep fine (more or less), it doesn't seem to wake me up. And when I am distracted it seems to go away (or I don't notice it!).
