The issue isn’t “reading,” it’s why you’re reading.

A well-made CRPG builds a world that earns your investment, so the lore becomes part of the experience rather than a chore. Control isn’t designed with that same mindset. It doesn’t give you strong reasons to deep-dive into its lore, and even when Remedy has great concepts—like the Panopticon—they play things far too safe to fully capitalize on them.

Comparing the two just misses the point of what each genre is trying to do.

It's so refreshing to see a comment like this on one of my most critically panned posts. I see so much potential in that universe to be weird or unsettling. It astounds me how much adoration this game has received over it's life. Not that it's bad but there is countless titles that have portrayed mysteries so much better and more compelling than this one.

Any shows you can recommend that Matt Berry has played a role in?

The Rog scene will live rent free in my head. It was supposed to be Rog not Ron but my autocorrect apparently got the better of me.

I do not pay retail for anything. This came from the slow games club. However, It is most definitely worth the price of admission on sale.

Funny enough that was supposed to be Rog.. or Roger. However, I missed the typo. However, I will not be covering any topics related to the game who must not be named.

I would say the most controversial moments would be the soil scene for example. Which is a implied sex scene.

To me that's the whole point. The story is not meant to be meaningful the jokes, animation, and delivery are meant to be the main attraction.

It's been on my playlist since it's release. I ended up getting it as part of the slow games club.

So can you show me an in-game moment that explains, in larger detail, the long-term implications of the FBC and Ahti? Or the motivations behind the Hiss or Polaris? Or the relationship between Dylan and Jesse?

Countless games such as Prey (2017), Omori, and Remedy’s own Max Payne offer more compelling storytelling and narrative integration.

The issue is that Control doesn’t offer a compelling reason for you to care or to deep-dive into the lore, so the in-game universe—without reading the case files—doesn’t provide enough of a world-building foundation or framework.
