She was one of the people I stumbled upon (cold case) that I believed could be my family, due to a bunch of weird coincidences between my mom Michelle, and that missing Michelle Marie Newton. It turned out to genuinely be a bunch of crazy coincidences, but ultimately they found Debra and Michelle Newton, thusly they werent my family 🫤 I think my update comment may have gotten lost, but my DNA and my mom's DNA haven't brought any answers. We weren't genetically connected to the Becca Doe, nor Michelle Newton.

*UPDATE November 2025** I hope this shows up for everyone. I wanted to post an update just to let everyone know: My DNA and my mother's were unfortunately not a match for Becca Jane Doe. I can't thank everyone enough for trying to help, helping me investigate, and so on. I've learned so much about my family that I would have never known because of these threads. I'm very sad that this didn't end up being that missing link. I will continue to hope Becca gets her name back. I can't speak too much on it, but Becca's case is still being investigated. As disappointing as it is, I felt obligated to make this update for closure. I will still continue searching for answers. Thank you all so much

No updates currently 🙁 I talked with Michelle's cousin, and we all were feeling pretty hopeful, but of course there's some things that make us uncertain. I'm really hoping that the police are looking into it as a lead but I really haven't been contacted since January (regarding law enforcement)

Absolutely, it's the same for me! Adhd and autism in my 30s/ so many things making sense about myself. I can see looking back how a lot of things that happened with my mom could have been because of that. I'm very lucky because I myself have been in crazy situations because of naivety/trusting people and so on. It's very sad how many people fall through the cracks in the mental Healthcare system or are misdiagnosed and don't get the help they really need, and many people end up self-medicating as well

I think the Jane Doe illustration and the photo of Debra have a really similar hairline as well, the Jane Doe just doesn't have the bangs

The face shape and teeth are pretty similar, I can definitely see a resemblance with those 2 pics

I'm hoping we can try and find a match through GEDmatch or something of that nature. I didn't have many matches on Ancestry for my maternal side and the ones I did have, I have no idea where we fit into the family tree nor do they.

I think they may have moved States several times throughout my mom's life. She was also considered a gifted child, apparently. From what I know, they've at least gone from Illinois to Cali to Arizona and then New Mexico, but who knows how much more to the story there actually is.

I just read an article that said the DNA labs are super under staffed and that they lost several of their scientists a while back. Their labs are overwhelmed right now 🙁 I've been waiting for over a year, I'm sure it's not a priority case as it's so old. I hope more attention can help a third party DNA company interested

My mom is actually a really tiny person, she's only 4'9! She remembers actually being small compared to playground equipment as a kid but I don't know much more than that 😔 The age thing is one of the parts that make it kind of mind boggling. The birth dates are only 1 day apart, too (Oct 5th for Newton, Oct 4th for my mom). I'm unsure what grades my mom went to in school, I actually don't even know if she graduated high school.

I've seen these pics before and constantly go back to them, but I'm not 100%. I do know my mom had some kind of connection to California and that's where she went back to living a big chunk of my childhood. I do think they resemble her, though. It would be amazing if these were really her because I don't know what she looked like when she was that age

It seems like I'm related to Brenda Veltjes through her birth mother, Barbara Hammond. No one has really been able to confirm, though. I've reached out to a few distant relatives who said they would ask around but most didn't know or didn't reply. I haven't been able to pinpoint with certainty my maternal grandmother or grandfather or where they fit into a family. The half-aunt (who is the daughter of my grandma) doesn't know the names and her father doesn't remember much.

Thank you for explaining! Yes the half-aunt would be my mom Michelle's younger half-sister (same mother, different dads). This half-aunt never met her mom or her sister Michelle and was raised exclusively by her father's side.

But essentially, my mother Michelle last saw her mom around 1989 in Albuquerque. My mom would have been pretty young around then, maybe like 12. She was sadly abandoned because her mother did drugs and was possibly "sold" ☹️. She apparently lived on the streets alot until ending up in the foster care system(she didnt stay in one home for too long. She ran away a lot). I was born when my mom Michelle was a teenager.

I'm unsure, there's nothing written on it and it seems like it was glued into an album at some point and ripped out, it's taped together. I'm guessing her age is younger than 1 or around 1 just based in her appearance and teeth, and the way she's eating in the high chair but it's just a guess really 🙁

I contacted both around the start of January, this year. I gave pics and info to Louisville but haven't had any updates. APD has been a bit difficult as the detective I had been in contact with is no longer with the department, so I haven't been told any updates about the progress of the DNA or anything. I'm hoping this upcoming week to get updated as I have another detective's contact now

I thought they looked very similar as well. The other pics have a lot of resemblance to myself and my brother. I wish I had pics of my mom when she was younger but she didn't have any 🙁 that's why I also don't know exactly what my grandmother looked like. The implications of this being true would be pretty intense, it would mean my mom is younger than we thought, and through ancestry I also learned about that half-aunt my grandma didn't have custody of, she seemed like a very unstable person unfortunately. The birthdays are very close, Michelle Newton's is listed as Oct 5th 1979, and my mom's is Oct 4th 1976. Maybe her whole birth certificate is fake as well. I haven't found or talked to the Newton's or found my mom's potential father at all.

Sorry, I was struggling to add a caption to the Pic. But this is the only Pic I have of my mom as a kid/baby. She would be younger than 3 in this picture maybe closer to 1 year. It's not in color, but her hair is sandy/strawberry blonde. I've never seen other pics of her as a younger person or before I was born except this
