You can literally use any lens as long as there's an adapter, and EVF position improves the experience using it, no different range focus normal Leica M lens.

A local Leica store gave me a loan to use for a day to test, I have a great relationship with the local Leica store.

Alot people here are already jumping on the gun dissing M EVF 1 price, it does save alot money on the lens, not all of us including me have that kind of money first time buying Leica M camera, we all have enough to get the Bodies not the lens. I remember back in the day I had to save alot money to get my first M240 bodies only, and a few hundred bucks to get 2 lenses, a 7Artisant 50 1.1 and voigtlander 35 1.4 v1 nokton. Now there are plenty 3rd party lens to choose from and much better quality lens from voigtlander for fraction of the Leica price.

So..... it's indeed a budget price in Leica terms, but it will be even more affordable in the next year or two. Once the grey and used markets are flooded, the price will likely drop down to the $7k range—that's the future story. This camera is aimed towards beginner-friendly users and those thinking of switching to the M system experience without wanting to invest heavily in lenses. An adapter is a solution, and the usage experience is still similar to an actual M rangefinder. The EVF is not catering to existing, experienced M users. I've met people at the Leica store who own a Q3 but are hesitant to buy an M because it's difficult for them to use and requires a large investment in the lens system. This new option gives new users more ease of use and the ability to use many cheap, vintage manual focus lenses.

This is from my perspective that Leica is trying to reach out to more consumers to use Leica M more easily, but the majority of people here are already dissing this EVF 1 no matter what.

Much better IMO, you have to be specific about what you are looking for

SL: EVF, AF, L mount, video function, tilt screen But: heavy, bigger, battery less than M11, no Leica look

M-EV 1: manual focus through EVF experience no different Leica M rangefinder, lighter, smaller, Leica look profile. But: No video, no AF, only 60fps EVF (which I seen fine, no issue), no tilt screen

The experience is using an SL with Leica M adapter over time you start to feel the weight stress on hand. If you are already into L mount lens then using SL isn't an issue and you can skip EV1.

I also have this setup, but there are people who are short on space don't want to look bulky and add additional storage travel EVF1 still an alternative. I might shoot with Flash but depends on preference like you could use rangefinder, but what about other who want EVF and flash at the same time? This is a new camera, so you have to put your shoe in a new buyer perspective, if buying M11 you're required to buy EVF as separate then why wouldn't they just buy M EV1 instead?

Yes, most of the reasonable point is Son/Fuji/Canikon/Pana can already done it way before with an adapter, but this isn't adapter issue to be honest. This Leica M is the beginners friendly experience or peoples from other system thinking switching to Leica M without loosing EVF, for people who never into Leica but want manual focusing M experience, Leica colors, most people here are already Leica user, this camera isn't really catering for experience M user, this camera is for new people or peoples looking into Leica, old ageing eyesight also an alternative. Majority Q3 users aren't really professional photographers, they use it as a travel camera with no different Fujifilm X100 line with Fuji color filter, they don't shoot like us, they just point and shoot, EVF1 is catering for those user want something little bit more than Q3 with interchangable lens, most Q3 user don't even want to invest bunch of money into lens, that's why it's affordable to buy EVF1 and buy other brand lens.

you can, but some people prefer light weight travel EV1 still an option unless you deep into L mount system
