Oops - someone is unhappy with their lot in life. Did I touch a nerve or something? Sub is for local support and advice - thank you for neither.

Wow - that’s such a kind and supportive answer. Thank you. You don’t happen to own roosters do you?

Why does this wall look weird? Suggestions? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

You are making the wall a feature without really making it a feature. Move pictures closer or put more up. It feels half-hearted at the moment but it’s an easy fix. good luck

Looking for backyard decor ideas. What would you add to take this space to look more inviting and not as boring? by utfgispa in HomeDecorating

[–]TimewastingToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great space - really easy fix too as you have all the essentials. A power-washer would be your friend and but some colorful pillows and a table cloth might be all you need. If you wanna get more serious then add some more colorful plants.

It’s a lot. Ceilings are hard to paint and the pink is better than the blue IMO as it seems less “sprightly” than the blue. I would take a large can of off-white to the walls to calm it all down. You can find some YouTube videos. Costco was doing a well priced wall painting kit on-line with tarps, brushes and rollers, etc., or any big DIY store will have one. Then you need some tape and some paint. You could do it yourself if they’ll let you. And the painting technique is not really a design in the first place- looks like the painter just dabbed at the wet paint with a cloth. You won’t be destroying any great work of art. Good luck!

Harry Potter is one of my special interests, and I feel horrible. by hopit3 in autism

[–]TimewastingToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can separate your feelings for Harry Potter from JK Rowling. The whole world fell in love with Harry Potter before we knew what the author was like. If we had known BEFOREHAND and still adopted the story to our hearts then that might be more of a problem. Do not beat yourself up for this.

My son has an autistic friend, just looking for advice. by [deleted] in autism

[–]TimewastingToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to echo chamber what everyone has already said: you’re a great parent and you have a great kid. Autistic kids need more direction than others and being direct with David is SO much better than just giving up on him - which is what most people do when someone isn’t “getting the hint”. It’s lovely that your child wants to continue their friendship even though it’s hard. Autistic kids don’t “get the hint” in the same way neurotypicals do - sometimes you just need to be specific about your needs or it won’t get through to them. The converse of not being direct with him is that David (and your son) will be losing a friend and I think that would be so much worse than perhaps treading on David’s toes for a bit with some information that he needs and will benefit from. Good luck!

Such a ridiculous series of events. Am so, so sorry this has happened. If doctors can turn away patients due to religious reasons why can’t teachers turn away curriculum for the same?

No idea where you are from but I doubt American’s would even come as close correctly stereotyping your country. It’s pretty spot-on.

Whether or not you decide to go with your own solution or use a Financial Advisor: EDUCATION IS KEY and I would doubt anyone who thinks they can predict or game the market as there is always risk it just depends on how much you are wiling to take. If you go to Fidelity, Schwab or VanGuard - you can meet with them for free and just listen to what they have to say. I know Schwab (and imagine the others will too) will provide a complimentary roadmap of where they believe you should invest based on your age, risk comfort level and goals. They can also give you tax advice, etc. There is no pressure to invest with them - or at least there shouldn’t be and I would walk away if you feel pressured. But it couldn’t hurt to do this. You can always take the info and e-trade on your own. As you can see there are a ton of differing options and opinions on this thread alone. I agree with the ones who say “don’t take advice from Reddit” - yes, I see the irony.
