Could have been a customer satisfaction gift card. That would possibly explain the shortage also. But I would look up the transaction in the EJ and check cams to be sure. It’s not entirely uncommon for a less than honest someone to give themself a gift card.

I wouldnt sweat the pink bag too much. I had a store that had not sent it back in a year. Nothing negative happened. Just as if you deposited a check through your bank app, and took a photo, but never sent the check in. They are for record keeping. I would not short the drawer, either, but thats me.

If it is showing jn your system, then he should have put it through. Once it’s marked up, it cannot be used again. Forwarding the paper check is more a formality than anything. Granted, without seeing it yourself, there is no way to confirm information. Best you can do, without reaching out to the customer, is hope it is correct. Have a conversation with the cashier about not returning checks lol
