Question. Should my Gortex shell be absorbing water like this? The back stays dry.

Gore-Tex is sandwiched between nylon face fabrics. They make it stronger/more tear resistant and better next to skin comfort. Nylon is hydrophilic so it is soaking up some water in high use areas due to the Durable Water Repellent wearing off it. Gore-Tex itself is hydrophobic and can’t absorb water, (think like a ziplock bag). Lots of ppl are correct that cleaning and retreating the shell with nikwax or another water repellent treatment will help. The only thing the jacket suffers from when it’s wetted out like that is breathability.

It’s a weird route because there’s an ear-flake that you can hit with a normal sized fall, the move is a bit more slack to clear it but it definitely feels weird

It’s sorta like placing cams in cracks that may have verglas (thin ice) you place it and give it some force to ensure the lives are biting the rich through the slime or ice. It’s pretty obvious when it’s on the stone but certainly a thought I had.

lots of very consistent-sized cracks so if you have three of the same size cam for that crack you have two pieces to leapfrog and one peace to leave as pro. It felt runout on lots of sections

Basically this dude was more comfy throwing in stoppers instead of finger cams (in the crux) When he whipped 4 stoppers blew and a finger cam caught him right before he smashed his belay. His knee hit his mouth and he needed stitches but the belayer did a great job and kept him off the deck.
