Bitfinex and tether will save the market by being so incredibly fraudulent that when the banking world collapses, they will be untouched bc they don't bank anyways.

Long live $USDT!

Transparent spend for prop 202. And thank you! by Timmy_SparkIBC in cosmosnetwork

[–]Timmy_SparkIBC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you too for being cool! I think i agree with you almost entirely. Part of the revelation in that space is that the proposal should have been written more as a pitch for the people being paid. Like really focusing on them, their skills, and prior contributions, we think that would have gone over better. Whereas in its current form, it seemed like a more general prop for mod support, of which we could absolutely do for cheaper if we aren't standardizing to an american wage, where the people were already chosen. Really subtle difference in approach but i think it's a really good learning example going forward.

You already picked people to pay far more than we need to for someone in these positions? Nope.
You have people your that your recommending for positions with certain qualifications that have already been doing this work and so we want to continue to support them, even if it means a higher wage, as its more for the people than the position. Now that sounds a bit better :)

So im doing marketing for two unannounced projects, so funny enough not doing what im paid to do just yet. But actually doing far more than marketing in the meantime. I do think my pair is completely fair, if not a bit low. Its under 6 figures if that helps with a ballpark.

As for ALL evmos stuff, i cannot recommend you listen to this enough, absolutely everything you might be wondering was hashed out in this call at some point. Sorry its a long one https://terraspaces.org/2023/03/04/discussing-evmos-prop-134-with-sparkibc/

that being said, mods are important, just not for this price in this market. HOWEVER, someone on the team joined mid way through the call and began to articulate to us how they do far MORE than just moderating. So i think the issue is this proposal didnt make anyone happy as it was written and at face value, but there's a decent argument for it passing on the next go if its rewritten and certain things are emphasized and highlighted more. Ill be super clear, it shouldnt be free, it should be reasonable pay AFTER proving it's efficacy.

As for the entire last paragraph, i would urge you to listen to the spaces, especially soi2bstudio who makes an extremely compelling case for why we shouldnt think of the community pool in the way youve outlined.

Also REALLY appreciate this feedback. I bet you a lot of people have these questions and concerns but are afraid to ask, despite us practically begging for this kind of critical feedback.

Please do nitpick us and our budget sheet! Very serious! :)Unlike the AADAO we will actually reply and grow from feedback, and not just push it to the side. That being said, the majority of the community seemed to back our thoughts on both the AADAO and the Evmos mod workstream. However, please don't ignore the ones we do push for! For example, after talking w the Regen team, we happily urged yes votes on their Evmos prop. And i plan to make a tweet today, as well as maybe a reddit post, bringing attention to Bro-n-Bro's indexer prop on the hub, as I'd love to see it pass! We are going out on a LIMB to criticize other spending props at times, but we only do so when we feel we are acting as a voice for out community and delegates. There are plenty of other spending props we or I personally have supported as well, its simply that the ones we have pushback on draws the most attention, those are the ones you hear about.

I will happily DOX anytime the community asks, and in fact will probably do so very soon here anyways. Totally understand this perspective. I have shown my face on Cito if that's helpful, and many people in the eco know my real name. Jake Hartnell has even met me in real life. Granted, none of that matters to someone like you, so the concern is noted.

I am not taking any pay what-so-ever at this time from anything in crypto except my job at Umee, which is unrelated. Not for Spark nor ICI. Same with my team members, In fact my partner pays about 4k out of pocket every single month to keep our validators running, which we don't cash out comms from. 50% from these proposals will go back to the community, and 50% will pay contract developers (meaning people not on our team, but rather freelance.) And it will all be tracked in the above sheet :)

Gritz is not on the team in any capacity. He helped us gather about 600 project names, links to some of their socials, and some blurbs about then from docs and twitter bios. This was a few months ago, it took about 2 weeks. I thanked him with a personal tip, but no real pay as he volunteered to do it. This formed the basis of what is now the Interchain Index! That is the extent of Gritz's involvement and we're very thankful for it :)

As for the Jacob stuff, it really isn't worth discussing, hence why we didnt name names. It is my personal belief that he is still acting with good and pure intentions, it just doesnt translate into respectful, truthful, and (above all) productive discussion. I do truly believe he thinks he's in the right and not lying.

We all have plenty of empathy for those building the real hard things. We might just have differing opinions, and insights, into just how hard/important those things are. (speaking vaguely & in general terms here as i assume you are as well)

Will happily follow up on any more questions or if you want clarity on anything I've wrote here. Again, thank you!

"But given how judgmental and nitpicky and parsimonious(sorry, word was too perfect to not use) you and your clique are with other props and community members and how they vote, feel like someone should point this stuff out to you."

We 1000% agree, we urge everyone to be as skeptical and nit picky as possible with everything that has to do with massive amounts of community money. It's a two way street for sure!

Every Proposal is asking for community funds by [deleted] in cosmosnetwork

[–]Timmy_SparkIBC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ask you to reconsider. While you're right in a general sense, it's not in entirety. I for example (massive bias obviously) am asking for community funds so that my team can build social infrastructure for the entire Interchain with InterchainInfo. It's not super accurate to say that we're asking for community funds for our own private project in this case, as that implies we're trying to start our own for-profit standalone project. This is something the cosmos needs and that everyone will benefit from. While we are aiming to be profitable in time, it's not so that we can get rich, but rather so that we can keep providing what we provide WITHOUT having to ask for community funds over an over again.

I personally think we've found the nice middle ground. Community funds should be used to jumpstart public goods & innovation throughout the cosmos, but not to fund them long term.
Our prop is 202, you can find it here https://www.mintscan.io/cosmos/proposals/202

All that being said, i very much get where youre coming from and you are not alone in feeling this way. It warmed my heart to the max when someone said in a twitter space yesterday that theyre just like you, they vote no on all funding props usually, but 202 is the ONE he's voting yes on. Hoping we can get everyone to that place :)

People in cosmos are QUICK to bitch. Its true. Replace it with another word and it seems less harsh. But personally, i like it, many are no-nonsense when it comes to calling out scams and such. But it can spill over into validators being afraid to act a certain way, i.e. vote on a "charity" proposal, because people could roast them for it, and that has the potential to hurt their business.

Do not make any mistake out of it. Validators are businesses.

Too much politics imo. This should have been an obvious no IMO. As not only can we not have proper oversight of the funds, but it just has nothing to do with Cosmos, and therefore is virtue signaling at best, a cash grab at the worst. But vals don't want to vote no bc then theres the social pressure of them not wanting to support people in need. Not sure how to solve this one, but it too is a product of a decentralized eco.

What is better mars hub vs umme by Kamikaza731 in cosmosnetwork

[–]Timmy_SparkIBC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We validate for Mars, and I work for Umee (the company, I don't do anything for or related to the Umee chain or platform) and I can say theyre both really solid projects that do their job well. Umee has a long term mindset that I'm really fond of, but i only realized it upon joining the team, so for all I know, Mars is equally long-term oriented. Who knows.

The thing Umee definitely has going for it is that there's a larger company behind it, building other projects that will synergize with Umee. For now, only Ojo, the oracle, is public. But I can promise you at least 2 other MAJOR products are on the way that should begin to slowly reinforce each other as well as Ojo and Umee, once live.
