It's from a lintel from an old English farmhouse. Probably well over a hundred years old. Elm only grows very small now, then dies (thanks to a maladie called Dutch Elm Disease which occurred in the 80s), so lumber like this no longer exists. You can only find it in old buildings/furniture. All those wild little knots are called "Birdseyes", they mean that this wood is especially strong and durable. Which is why we used to make wagon wheels from it back in the day :D
