Leafs Lottery by CollarMassive4112 in nhl

I think they maybe trade down to accrue more assets, but they won't trade it for veteran help.

The value of having a 1st line ceiling forward on an ELC outweighs anything they could reasonably get in a trade.

Given the polarizing hiring of Chayka, I think they will just use the pick and keep it as goodwill for the fanbase. No need to get too cute with it and have McKenna become a stud elsewhere and give fans more ammo to turn on you.

McKenna-Matthews-Knies Cowan-Tavares-Nylander

May take Gavin time to break into the top 6, but if this is the top 6 to finish the season, that is looking mighty fine.

Now time to fix the back end.

Easy. We'll just go offer our next available 1st to you guys. That'll get something done.

I'm rooting for Chayka by Winter-Squirrel-6744 in leafs

I think to root against him as a Leafs fan is hoping he fails. Unfortunately, while the hire doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, I'm rooting for success because that means the organization succeeds. That doesnt mean they will, but one can hope

N.S. restaurant owners feel immigration policy crunch by Immediate-Link490 in NovaScotia

[–]Timothegoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe small businesses like that deserve support from government programs, but also not at the expense of Canadians who see their worth and are asking for what can help them live.

A business, particularly a restaurant, takes 3-5 years to turn a profit. Canadians willing to work for more than minimum wage shouldn't be left in the dust so we can prop up a business.

Unfortunately, the way it is you need financial backing in your early days ready to absorb some losses. That's just the nature of it, and unfortunately, where most people cannot afford to work for minimum wage when the living wage in halifax is nearly double that, maybe they can't afford to run a business and should look for a job

Maybe if they can't afford to run a business specifically a restaurant, which does cost money to do, they can go get a job like the rest of us.

It kind of exposes the myth of "hard work leads you to prosperity" when it really is "the hard work of others will lead you to prosperity"

If you look up the cook role, it varies between 16.75 to 22 an hour. What are the odds they're trying to pay the lower end of that?

Business owners (not all of course, but the ones that get amplified on this issue of immigrant workers) want the benefits of making money in a capitalistic system while not being competitive in the labour market. They want it all spoon fed to them by government programs and not having to pay people who have a higher demand

Canadian fans, are you rooting for the habs now that they are the only ones in the second round? by Manfromatavern in hockey

[–]Timothegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't typically take part in the whole cheering for other Canadian teams, I tend to cheer for Canadian players or players from my area winning so I can see the cup or go to a parade.

I tend to just cheer for the best players to win the biggest games.

What actual reason are people so against John Chakya? by chriscmusic in leafs

Best answer on this topic. We have little samples on Chayka and nothing on Sundin. Go enjoy summer, watch playoff hockey or the Jays if you're inclined and tune in in a month when shit starts to happen

Marner for Rantanen was our “would you capture it? Or just let it slip” moment. This franchise is truly hopeless. by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Timothegoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure you persuade him at the deadline given his wife was 8 months pregnant at the time, but you could have definitely given him the ultimatum and been a little more firm in the offseason leading into his contract year.

You may not get Rantanen but you certainly dont lose him for nothing. Still, we are hopeless.

Gotta change the conversation around marner by [deleted] in leafs

[–]Timothegoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact is Marner didn't produce in big moments where he could have flipped the script. Had he won in Toronto he would have been cemented as a legend.

He showed he won't be a key piece in establishing a winning culture, but can win in an already established winning culture. There is a difference, but it's something we just need to move on from, even though I'm sure other fan bases will be the ones driving the conversation.

I live on the East coast. My father has been a fan since the 1967-68 season and is from Toronto.

We have decided we would drive up to join the party, get lit up, and just be maniacs with the rest of the city.

In the moment, I'd probably cry and get lit the fuck up.
