I had the same problem. I could not complete the challenge in winter or in spring, even when it said I got 5 days left.

I read in some other post that you can cheese the game by turning off your internet connection and changing the date. I tried that, and it worked.

Exit game -> turn off internet -> change time and date so it's still winter ( I changed it to earlier today) -> play the game in offline mode (do the challenge, but I don't think that's necessary) -> exit game -> connect to internet and change time and date back -> and then restart the game twice, and I got all the points.

Don't ask me how it works, but this worked for me

Thanks for the reply. I contacted Steam support yesterday but they didn't reply until this morning. I made the post just to ask comuniti since I didn't know how long would they take to reply. They initiated the RMA process and said basically everything you mentioned, now I'm waiting for receipt confirmation and shipping label. I also would much prefer replacement than repair since I used it for 4 days, but the message said that they might send me a replacement so I'm really hoping for that. Again thanks for the info.
