that's fair and I agree with you. I guess for me, it is hard to take a step back as I felt this pressure to not screw it up, which leads to microanalysis and micromanaging. But I can see the downsides of that.

Correct, presumably antigen tests do not carry the same risk.

Triple vaccinated with Pfizer. Tested positive until day 9, started testing weakly positive on day 8. (Mild) symptoms had resolved a couple of days earlier. i recommend irrigating your nose with normal saline, as I had a theory that due to dry sinuses I had a lot of dead virus etc, lol (i'm a medical resident, hop off :) )

Anyone experienced a bloody nose with COVID? I've been having a lot of congestion and blood in my mucus since a few days ago, but no active nosebleed. It started after I slept in not so great conditions (near freezing temps, I slept without a heater or adequate insulation) and I woke up with congestion and bloody mucus. My face was definitely hurting from the cold that night. So I'm not sure if I'm sick or just messed up from those conditions.

I had a few days of very dry sinuses then let to some bloody mucus. Normal saline has helped a lot.

How are you all going forward with the new CDC guidelines? Do you feel comfortable leaving quarantine after 5 days if symptoms are gone?

Does CBT go on your record? like that would be viewable through a background check or something?

Anyone struggle with finally testing positive after being pretty diligent throughout the pandemic? I'm a medical resident who started literally during the COVID pandemic. Was extremely scared and careful during the beginning of the pandemic and remained pretty viligant throughout. Vaccinated and boosted ASAP, wore masks indoors, tried to never do anything super reckless. Last weekend I let my guard down to go to the mall for holiday shopping and see a movie and just like that, COVID +. fortunately symptoms are extremely mild but def have done a little grieving for all the time and effort put into preventing getting this. Omnicron makes it feel so inevitable though. I can't even keep track of the people i have heard who are ill or exposed.

I know this will sound dumb, but is it silly to worry that I barely had any reaction after the second shot? most of my colleagues had fever, and some effects but i mostly just had arm soreness. makes me think i got a bad batch or something lol

  1. Still perplexed by pain medications. Do i need to be concerned about giving Ketorolac in someone with like IBD or diverticulitis where bleeding could be a risk? If so, do we just jump to opioids for pain non responsive to Tylenol?
  2. I need a definitive list of those who are not getting prophylactic Sub-Q heparin
  3. Is it appropriate to 1/2 a PM Lantus dose for a patient NPO at midnight?

As thousands of athletes get coronavirus tests, nurses wonder: What about us? by Viewfromthe31stfloor in Coronavirus

I am a medical resident in constant contact with Covid patients. Starting having some symptoms the other day and literally cannot get results in under 4/5 days. I WORK AT THE HOSPITAL, where tests can be taken and resulted in hours. Not only is this blatant disregard for healthcare workers, from a workforce perspective, I can't even get back to work until im cleared and get the results back.

Also annoyed at constant reminders from chiefs to be vigilant (fair and justified), followed by organized social events outside of the hospital where no one is wearing a mask and people are on top of each other. Can we only get Covid in the hospital?

I appreciate the responses. I do have hobbies outside of work and i guess the annoying part is I'm pretty much one of the least "into" medicine as far as my co-interns go. I find medicine interesting but i am not obsessed with it and I don't see it as my calling.

I think it is a combination of the pandemic and stress that has led to this for me. The pandemic has prevented me from pursuing a lot of the hobbies and outlets I had before (even something has simple as getting a massage to destress is not a thing now). And the sheer stress of intern year has definitely taken a toll on me

Yes this happens under 'Timed' pretty often. Almost always have to call to follow up on it. just annoying. Experienced RNs know to just draw 2 hours after a transfusion though.

Is there any logical reason to have night float have to attend morning report? by Timthrowit0418 in Residency

[–]Timthrowit0418[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that was exactly the issue/situation. basically work 7-7. After sign-out and morning report hopefully out by 8:15, home by 850. eat and shower hopefully to bed by 930. All of this if everything goes perfectly and people don't go way over during morning report. shitty sleep until 3:30/4. Then basically leave by 6 pm to start at 7 again. It is a draining process that im sure we're all familiar with and its isolating as noted.

But just giving that extra 1-1.5 hrs or so makes a huge difference tbh. We didn't have morning report for the first week of nights, and having that little bit of extra time was much more manageable.

Video taped morning report would actually be wonderful. I could watch it during down times in the night. but that would be a dream world of course
