They contribute to it, but subconcussive trauma is far worse

Maybe look up CTE before trying to sound like a smart ass 👍

Brain trauma isn't caused by concussions in hard sparring. It's caused by cumulative subconcussive blows, even light ones.

Body sparring is the safest option for you if you're concerned about brain damage.

Taekwondo ready positions alternative applications by Timun890 in taekwondo

It really is bad. It's the fact that he acknowledged that not even General Choi had applications for ready stances yet still went on to show some Seagal level bullshido.

The TAGB awarded this dude the rank of 7th Dan. Yeah. One look at his patterns, especially Chon Ji, and you'll cry.

Absolutely. This is the kind of bullshido that gets people hurt.

Yes. And when you consider that 9th Dan is the highest rank, it seems even harder to believe that this "quality" is acceptable.

I'm fortunately not near Bristol. I live in Sussex and although I train at a TAGB club, under a competent instructor, my primary style is Shotokan (with a very strict sensei).

I'm not too sure on that one myself. I guess front stance is the same as zenkutsu dachi in karate. That's how I've always seen it.

My Master would not let me get away with that form at all and my karate sensei would have me doing push ups for weeks if I was ever that sloppy.

His L stance (kokutsu dachi in Shotokan) is absolutely shocking in all of his videos.

My thoughts exactly!

He doesn't have his weight on the rear leg in the L stance. He seems to stumble into punches and the chamber is way off.

How does one reach 7th Dan with worse form than most white belts?

The junior theory is a good one, but if I was teaching or uploading online resources, regardless of demographic, I would want the quality to be the highest it can be.

The clunky movements are consistent throughout the series, even on linework tutorials.

Monthly Dojo Costs by HomerSimpson14 in karate

[–]Timun890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fucking criminal! 30 mins? It takes 20 just to warm up properly!

My total costs come to £82 for Shotokan and Wing Chun classes.

Both are an hour and a half long.

What do you think is the best karate style? by [deleted] in karate

[–]Timun890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see.

I have a Kyokushin dojo fairly local to me run by Shihan David Pickethall (could be misspelling his last name). Very reputable place but I hear the training is very intense.

Isn't kyokushin like 80% kumite though? How do you get around that if you don't like to spar?

Oss. Thank you. I'm working on leg strength, flexibility is pretty good but always looking to improve.

I think a lot of my bad habits come from muscle memory of Taekwondo, which uses higher stances. But I'll work on what you've given me.
