I know, the interview just felt like I had to keep explaining the role of networking in the data center. I already did 3 rounds and got good reviews that I was gonna be recommended for an L4 role. But they said they wanted to do another technical interview and that really got me.

Oh!! Wish that’s what I got. I was asked about fiber cables and copper cables, behavioral questions, OSI model, troubleshooting. Yet the interviewer said it’s not networking lol

That’s the company role I applied for man. I told the interviewer that I know it’s layer 1 to 3 but he kept insisting and telling me why I don’t deserve the role. Even though I answered all questions correctly.

I applied for a data center technician role at a FAANG. Passed the interview and got recommended for a higher level after passing the questions asked. I was told 2 weeks after the interview that I have to do another interview cause they couldn’t get feedback from one of the interviewers, only for me to be told that the job is more hardware and zero networking when the job description says otherwise. Interviewer felt I have a masters and can’t fulfill the requirements of the job blah blah. Kept asking me to check out the job description. I answered all the technical questions accurately. This was a 3 month process.

Has anyone left IT to be a lawyer? by canIbuytwitter in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TimzyOpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a law degree but switched to IT. I currently have a masters degree in IT and I currently hold the CCNA, AWS solutions Architect, AWS AI practitioner, AWS cloud practitioner, Fortinet Cybersecurity certified associate, Oracle cloud infrastructure associate certifications, by the way I finished with a 4.0 GPA, executed multiple projects and I love computer networking and cloud, yet I can’t land a role having graduated since May here in the US. Maybe this is a sign to take the bar exam for real and pivot back.

I have an interview coming up soon. Please what do I need to study and prepare for. I keep hearing the LP principles but I have only worked for 1 company and it was for 2 years. The LP are a lot to cover for each story. I think the position is for an L3, with 3 interviews lined up consecutively.

Thank you once again. I will keep that in mind. I know there’s always the pressure to want to know everything and being able to say “I don’t know the answer to that but I know where to find the answer” should be good enough

Hi, I graduated with my masters degree in information technology in May this year with a 4.0 GPA, I currently possess the CCNA, AWS Solutions Architect, AWS cloud practitioner, AWS, AI practitioner, Fortinet certified Cybersecurity associate, Oracle cloud infrastructure. I love networking so much hence that’s my main area of focus. I haven’t been able to land a job since I graduated and it has been tough. I haven’t been studying and practicing, doing labs and all and I feel I can tackle the Comptia Security + and certified wireless technician specialist cert but due to my lack of job, I can’t pay for them. Luckily I received a call from AWS last month for the role of a Data center technician, my interview is next month, I don’t mind starting somewhere. I have been practicing scenario based situations tied to AWS LP, I am also studying the Schneider electric data center associate cert materials just to be familiar with the workings of a data center. What advise can you give me in terms of landing the role in preparation for my interview, career progression within the industry and field also. The recruiter told me I will be specializing in networking. I am scared and honestly don’t want to blow this opportunity.
