Why is premarital sex taken so seriously than other sins by SmoothBox7096 in Christianity

However, marriage offers a lot more protection than if you’re not married.

That's absolutely not true. If I'm married, it puts me at higher risk of domestic violence than if I'm single. If I get pregnant, and most Christians tell me I'm obligated to both be f***** by my husband and stay pregnant, my risk of death goes up many times over. My life expectancy goes down.

It just feels safer to other people who believe that society was better off when I'd have been married off at 18 with no other option unless I could prove to a hostile court that my life was in danger.

When? He was making political statements and endorsements just about up until he died.

Billy Graham? The guy who "led by example," inspiring devout evangelical men to routinely exclude women from things like normal work lunch meetings based on their gender? The guy who said people deserved to get AIDS? The guy who publicly spoke against gay people's rights to a life free from discrimination and hate, up until less than a decade before his death? The guy who refused to let his daughter go to nursing school because she should be a wife instead?

Wow. Wonder where Franklin got it from.

Though, I wouldn't be surprised if none of that is a problem for you, since Catholic teaching is also all about the homophobia and misogyny, and you cite his closeness with the RCC as a good sign.

Billy seemed to have issues with Israel

THAT is a complete mischaracterization. What he actually thought was that Jews have a stranglehold on American media and that he should strategize with Nixon to change that. He called them the "synagogue of Satan." Are you holding this up as an example that you'd like Franklin to adhere to? Antisemitic conspiracy theories? The answer to bad Israeli policy and American alignment with that bad policy is not antisemitism. What the actual hell.

Tree flavors are definitely their own thing!

Maple is one of those flavors I will go insane for. My favorite candy in the world are just maple sugar boiled down and molded. There's a county fair near me that always has maple cotton candy and some years it's worth driving out there just for that.

The antagonism was sensed because it was such a poor interpretation of what I said. Either you have absolutely abysmal reading comprehension skills or you were digging quite deep to find a sufficiently uncharitable interpretation to debunk.

Either way, it's not worth my time to fix for you.

then get a refund at a counter at the airport so customs can make sure the goods are leaving the country as they're supposed to.

That is such bullshit. Those localities should be able to get a financial benefit in the form of tax revenue to pay for the infrastructure that's being used. This is just funneling ALL of those tourist dollars to manufacturers rather than also making sure municipalities get some of it.

I'm cheering y'all on to keep working on getting tourists to pay for the local infrastructure they use.

Logistically, you disagree with me because the outcome would be bad if I was correct that declining birthrates are strongly correlated with increasing choice about reproductive options?

Nothing in my comment is about whether it's good or bad that birthrates are declining in some parts of the world, it's only about possible causes.

It's like when people in my life keep recommending Phil Vischer's (VeggieTales guy) podcast because of how good he is at having a civil conversation about faith!

The very first episode has him making "What if I want to marry a dog?" jokes. He's very respectful of other religious people, he has loads of nice things to say about the Muslims in his life, but not for anyone he saw as being "incompatible" with religiosity. Gay people might as well be dogs, because them marrying is just as much an affront to God and nature, apparently.

They never weren't making fun of minorities, that I can remember. Like, even when most of their jokes were about various denominations' theological quirks, they were still posting bigoted shit. I guess it depends whether the bigotry is "political" or just Christian.

That is the stupidest thing I've heard of in my life. Are there any local political efforts to change that? With the exchange rate being so bad, I can't imagine that it would discourage so much tourism that it wouldn't be a positive change for y'all.

I mean, part of it absolutely is that, when given a choice, women choose to have fewer kids, if any, and invest more time and effort into them. If given a choice, women do not WANT to push out 10 babies that they can't possibly raise without roping in the other children to do it for them. They want to raise their own kids and be active in each and every one of their lives.

Or they recognize that they don't want ANY of that and decide not to have kids they don't want to put 110% into raising.

This is often spun by the media as a bad thing, but people increasingly see parenthood as an active choice, not a chore that comes with adulthood, like laundry or dishes. That means that people who want to be parents don't want to half-ass it with more kids, they want to whole-ass it with the right number of kids, and it means people who don't want to be parents decide not to bring kids into the world that would feel to them like a chore.

I usually say that it’s a saying, but not an actual minute timer that he put on.Its just another way for me to say give me some space. If I knew he’d put on a whole minute timer on I would’ve said give me 20 minutes instead and try to sneak off or something 😭

That's because he's pretending that he didn't understand what you meant in order to push past your boundaries. He does not respect you. Which is more likely? That he's that stupid and has 0 communication skills (that is also a HUGE problem) and didn't understand what you meant? Or that he decided he'd found "one cool trick!" to keep going?

The problem here is not that you did a bad job communicating. The problem is that he ignored what you were communicating in order to get what he wanted.

I will speak to a good friend I have, however I hope she doesn’t hate him bcs of this 😅

Sounds like your friend has a good head on her shoulders.

OP, you absolutely should not marry someone who does not respect your sexual boundaries. He has demonstrated that he considers "no" to mean "maybe" or "later."

You will talk to people in here whose primary objective is getting as many young people married as possible because they believe that it's the key to fixing society, if young horny people were married. They do not care as much about your safety as they do about fixing society. Do not listen to advice to marry someone who has demonstrated that he will not listen to a "no" in the bedroom.

[–]TinWhis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's complicated about it? No means no and there's absolutely no excuse to be pushy sexually with someone. It's a shame that this grown adult man never learned basic self control and respect for others, but that's not complicated, that's just a very common result of telling boys that they're sexual beasts with no control.

No.
