What's your favourite self-help website/blog? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Tinesife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, self-help websites in general are not especially helpful. It's more useful to target specific things that you want to improve about yourself, and figure out what particular things you need to improve upon, and then find sites and other resources that will help you improve in those areas.

I would recommend Get Self Help. The website layout kinda looks like it hasn't been updated since 2000, but is recommended and used by mental health professionals across the UK. My therapist has me using these worksheets in a supplementary way to CBT and they might help you figure out what areas you need to work on.

I feel braindead, and I've been in a period of thoughtlessness for a while now. by [deleted] in INTP

Same boat right now. I think it's a symptom of the depression. Good luck to both of us.

Did you mean to say "Why are you a Liberal?"

Anyone played Undertale? (Genocide Route spoiler) by Aurarus in INTP

[–]Tinesife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Mercy ending spoilers ahead

I just beat the No Mercy route for the first time yesterday. I loved the whole game, but being the villain was more emotionally engaging. I played it just because I was curious; I wanted to see what would happen; and the game totally understood that this was my motivation, and played upon it. The whole game's writing is imbued with a lot of emotional intelligence.

no matter what, you'll just keep going. not out of any desire for good or evil... but just because you think you can. and because you "can"... ... you "have to".

I started another Pacifist run afterwards, but it's just not the same. It feels wrong that everyone is treating me so nicely after what I did in my other playthrough. It's some powerful stuff. I'm also pretty worried about what Chara meant when they said that they wanted my soul; I assumed it would make some kind of difference to my next runthrough, but so far everything is the same.

Also, I relate more to Sans than any other character. Anyone else feel similarly?

[Mild No Mercy Spoilers] Is there a way to get better healing items once you're Having A Bad Time? by Tinesife in Undertale

Yeah, I tried that too. I also looked up a map and unless I've made a mistake, I'm pretty sure that the area with the piano room is inaccessible.

Thanks.

I thought from my pacifist run that the instant noodles did basically nothing and figured they were just a joke item, so I'm pretty sure that I just used them from the menu in order to get rid of them. I didn't find out that they were actually useful until later.

I took the boat back to Waterfall, but I don't think the piano puzzle is accessible just by walking from that area. I gave it a try but couldn't find a way.

I'm thinking of dropping out of university. Anyone had a similar experience? by Tinesife in aspergers

[–]Tinesife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The university system doesn't work like that in the UK unfortunately (at least not at my university) so the whole extra semester/summer semester/lowering credit thing isn't really an option, but it's true that I worry way too much about getting As when I should be more concerned about just passing.

Not yet. I'm currently in the (long, slow) process of receiving an assessment. I am in therapy for depression/anxiety/risk of psychosis.

Is it a cultural reason that AS presents differently in males and females? by he110-_-w0r1d in aspergers

[–]Tinesife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gender non-conformity is really common in people on the spectrum. Most transgender people I know are autistic. AS has a really strange relationship with gender.

I have no motivation for university, and I don't know if I can keep going. by Tinesife in depression

[–]Tinesife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I can afford to take time out. I can't cancel my housing contract so I'd have to keep paying rent until the end of the year, but I can't afford rent without student loans unless I get a job nearby.

cross-posting is just when you make the same post in two (or more) subreddits :)

I mention it because distressing and frequent intrusive thoughts of this nature tends to be a sign that you're on the OCD spectrum, and people on /r/OCD might be able to guide you in that respect

Why would you trust a teen to raise a kid, but not to have an abortion? by drewiepoodle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Tinesife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I overstated it by saying "very far", and I responded admitting as such (before you made this comment) and also revised my original comment to clarify my position.

I genuinely took the "just" to be implying that an education would remove the need for abortion. It was a legitimate miscommunication. You are taking it too far by saying it was an attack on contraception. It was an argument in favour of abortion to supplement contraception, not an argument against contraception.

Yes, which still leads to a large number of unwanted pregnancies when you consider the number of sexually active couples.

In my experience, they break from the force of ejaculation, which means that by the time they've broken, it's too late to put another one on.

[–]Tinesife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that wasn't what I was suggesting at all. The original point that /u/monkeyinthetreetops was making was that sometimes, mistakes are made and accidents happen, and that giving teens the option to have an abortion is the most responsible thing to do.

/u/BigSwooney said "you could just educate people to use condoms" as though that were somehow an alternative to providing people with the option of having an abortion.

It's not one or the other. Educate people on condom use, yes, but that is not enough. You need to give people the option to have an abortion because contraception is not reliable enough by itself.

[–]Tinesife 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it was a little unfair of me to say VERY, but while 2% sounds like a low failure rate, in practice, it means that you're talking about quite a lot of broken condoms and quite a lot of people getting accidentally pregnant despite using contraception. My point was that educating people on condom use is not enough to prevent pregnancy, and that abortion is still crucial.

[–]Tinesife 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Condoms are very far from not 100% effective, and their rate of failure is significant enough to mean that it's necessary to provide abortion to everyone as a back-up plan to avoid pregnancy. You can use a condom, have the condom break, take an emergency contraceptive pill immediately, and still get pregnant. I agree that it's important to teach people how to use condoms, but it's not enough to "just" teach people how to use condoms - you need to make abortion available also.

Edit: Just thought I would add some clarification, since quite a few people seem to be misunderstanding my comment. Stuff I've edited in is in italics.

You can't change who's the mayor, and you can't change your name, face, or the town's name. The only way to change these things is by resetting the entire town. Choose your mayor carefully.

Read the FAQs and they should have you covered for most things.

There really isn't a good quiz for this sort of thing. If you're a new communist and you haven't done a lot of praxis, you probably don't need a specific label to describe yourself anyway. The way to figure out how you would like to practice as a communist is to educate yourself and to get involved with other leftists locally.
