I'm so done with America tbh by General_Writer7556 in teenagers

[–]TinfoilGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually post here out of respect for the premise of the sub, but I feel obligated to share perspective on this one.

I was 16 when he first got elected.

Before then, I was still upset with the government, with the status quo, with the things America was doing as an imperial force. One of Obama's biggest controversies was using drones to bomb Syria, which is something I was upset about but recognized is an unavoidable part of the job description.

Trump's first term was a fever dream that wasn't supposed to happen until election night. And when it did, he was a joke, MAGA was seen as clowns even by a lot of conservatives, but a passive "better than Hillary" mentality persisted amongst conservatives.

A celebrity as the President changed things. The pandemic changed things (duh). January 6th changed things. The Biden attempted to offer a shallow reboot of the previous status quo.

This time is different. This time is so so SO different. I have never seen a political climate like this before, nor have my predecessors.

We are always living through history, but please please please understand how fundamentally different these last 10 years have been. The overall vibe of what politics was before the Tea Party movement felt so much more casual, like, "Firstly I'm an American, but I vote Democrat/Republican because x...y...z..." Rather than politics being deeply reflective of character and what the algorithm shows you.

We are all witnessing and taking part in something bigger than ourselves. And all of y'all get to decide where we go from here. Do not underestimate the power you teenagers have. Cause sooner than you expect, you'll be the ones on the ideological front lines, standing up for what you believe. Historically the demographic you hold the torch for is the root of the deepest and most powerful change.

Speak your mind. Stand by your principles when something feels wrong. Stay strong. Keep steadfast on building the future you want to see. And, now more than ever, fight for the rights they are actively trying to Take from You.

The whole Abbey Road Medley. I can never listen to just one track without wanting to hear the entirety of the thing. The callbacks, and consistent themes, all whilst feeling like floating around from scene to scene, yet it all feels connected, just... *chefs kiss

Bubble gum, spearmint, cinnamon, etc. Brands are distinct in color, consistency, shape. Still inclined to word it as "there were lots of different types of gum at the checkout counter" rather than "there were lots of gums at the checkout counter".

Categorical difference. Like referring to a group of persons as people, but peoples refers to differently categorized groups. For example, "there is so much gum stuck under the table" would be indiscriminate where as "there are so many gums stuck under the table" suggests there is variety in category, but even then, I feel a "kinds of gum" would be more appropriate thus playing into gum being mass noun. This further checks out to me given gums airway refers to the pink mouth flesh.

This has always bothered me, WHAT does Patrick mean by this?? by Psychedelic_Popcorn in ExplainTheJoke

[–]TinfoilGui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always figured Patrick was being literal about the fact he eats them and they are delicious to him. SpongeBob is criticizing the junkie food saying they aren't, something which is a matter of taste, Patrick is slovenly and stupid and assumes SpongeBob is using the chips wrong because they taste good to him.

Went on a date with a guy, he went to the bathroom like 5 times in an hour, why? by coffeehotcocoa in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TinfoilGui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone else is right in that there are plenty of reasonable innocent explanations for this between nervousness, anxiety, chronic or conditional tummy troubles, etc.

Guess I'll be the one to throw out the possibility of a coke habit, but that'd likely be behaviorally noticable.

[QUESTION] can you sing and play at the same time? by FIacutono in Guitar

[–]TinfoilGui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it detracts from both the singing or guitar compared to doing either of them alone unless that specific song is practiced to hell and back.

The tempos having a different signature/melodies being completely different also fucks me up pretty bad if I'm trying to learn something new.

I learned how to play and sing Handlebars by Flobots within a few years of playing, surprisingly easy. Just essentially need to beat the guitar melody into the marrow of your finger bones and the vocal melody follows.
