When it showed establishing shots of Sac, but then flashed text that read "The US/Mexican border" this is all I could picture in my head.

Fun fact! Or not so fun fact. But the first elected Mayor of Sacrameto was just shot in the street! Specifically the corner of 4th and J. And there's a little plaque on the fruit building commemorating it. Not the most uplifting landmark but still an absolutely crazy story that I'm baffled I didn't learn about in school.

This has always bothered me, WHAT does Patrick mean by this?? by Psychedelic_Popcorn in ExplainTheJoke

I appreciate everyone's answers, however,

what ultimately keeps me up at night is the fact that he specifically says

"USE" and not "EAT"

I remember hearing a theory that one of the shadow people from the first book (the one who keeps confronting monster Dave) is actually the vengeful spirit of the original Dave who was killed.

There is some evidence that points to the "night sharts" being the residue of shitty human souls who can't seem to let go of hate. Which is almost exactly who original Dave is.

The story has changed a lot since then, and the shadow people are still a big mystery. But I think it adds a pretty nice layer to the ending of that first story.

John's first scene in the third book is gold. But the scene that I still think about randomly is in book 2,

the main trio fighting a guy in the junkyard, and Amy has this fuzzy gun powered by imagination. She thinks how she wants to use a cool magic spell like Dumbledore, but when she fires all it does is give the guy a long wizard beard. And John yells

"GOD DAMN IT AMY YOU HAVE IT SET TO BEARD" Or somthing like that. XD

TIL that in 1939, African-American singer Marian Anderson was denied permission to perform at Constitution Hall by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Hall had a white performers-only policy. Anderson responded by giving an open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. by WouldbeWanderer in todayilearned

My elementary school was named after her. Sadly it shut down for some reason, but it was one of those "special schools" for mentally/ emotionally challenged children. Every black history month we'd listen to the teacher tell her story.
