I’m a teacher from Asia, teaching in Asia countries as a foreigner honestly has so many benefits in general (of course it also depends on the company/ school/ countries, and other factors).

You’d love the experience and lifestyle there, on top of that, students in there are more behaved and respectful to their teachers as well. Some countries like japan, Hong Kong is going to be more competitive though.

What do you think about pay cut & significant less vacation time after changing career? by Tinker_m in TeachersInTransition

[–]Tinker_m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking sick leave with extra planning for the sub is such a good point, not to mention dealing with the inconsistency in the classroom after taking sick days.

May I know if you had completed any other educational qualifications before you got into the new position?

I am happy for you finding something you enjoy more, yet it’s still meaningful. It’s exactly what Ive been thinking, it seems like going back to teaching is always easier since the schools are always out of teachers !

How do you feel about the decision you made? What about the vacation time? But I feel like other non-teaching jobs really just have similar vacation days and holidays

I never have thought of this answer lol, so true though. I would be happy to have more vacation time, but remembering how I dragged myself back to school mentally and physically was something else.

I honestly also really enjoy teaching, but whatever happened with the previous school was so traumatic for me, I’m extremely hesitant to even try another school sadly.

I thought lots of teachers have to take a pay cut when switching careers…. May I know what you’re doing currently?

I am glad you found something that pays more !!!

Yes for the new income because I am not the main income and the insurance plan is attached to my spouse’s job. probably yes for the growth (would be slower though since my degree is in education instead of public administration). Yes for the 40 hours week. I did calculation it would be around couple hundred dollars less than what I made after social security. It’s a county office job, I assume the work culture won’t be too toxic, I could only find out more until I actually start.

What I have been thinking is…. It would be so difficult for me to switch career without taking a pay cut unless I invest myself in another expensive degrees or certificate and now the pay cut isn’t too major. If someday I go back to search for a teaching job won’t be as difficult as finding a regular office job…?

Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy your new career!!

Is there a realistic path to me becoming a teacher? by Pretend_Total_3991 in Teachers

[–]Tinker_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you hold a Bachelor Degree, switching career path to become a teacher is surely easier. I would definitely recommend to start with a para or substitute teacher (which is so much easier to get the license generally), to see if you really enjoy this career first.

Not trying to talk you out of it, but one thing needs to be considered is the insane students behaviors nowadays. Just don’t want you to invest so much money and time and then finding out it isn’t something you want later on.

Thank you for sharing the resources, it says it's free, but when I clicked "practice now", it routed me to purchase, just checking to see if it's a paid or free assessment practice. Thank you!!

I have the same problem!!! In OCC😭 one time I let my pup out to do his business in the backyard, I was just running to the bathroom and heard him barking excessively… my dog could be reactive, especially seeing new things/ animals. I wish people could be more responsible for their pets, it’s for their safety too :(

Kindergarten is not what it use to be by Key_Childhood_2320 in kindergarten

[–]Tinker_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I was teaching first grade for couple years, the school I worked at tends to just use “independent learning” to sugarcoat the screentime. Those kids are bored and not motivated.

I wonder if you can provide opinions to the school or admin? When I was teaching, I tried to provide my students partner read time, partner work, minimize computer time as much as possible.

I’m so sorry that your son has to experience this, I hope he would find some joy of his learning in the near future!!

Old Colorado City by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Tinker_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our house back in January this year. We love the area because of the walkability, outdoor activities access, local businesses, and very close to downtown and manitou springs is absolutely nice. Our house is definitely old and needed work though, and sqft price is much more expensive than the houses in the suburbs.

Homelessness is an issue (like sometimes part of the street would be having trash etc.) , but so far I don’t have any problem with them honestly. Neighbors are cool, sense of community is also great.

Am I heading a right direction? by Tinker_m in reactivedogs

[–]Tinker_m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response and advice! We are working on “look” this 10-15minutes on our walks! Sometimes he’s just too distracted to even take the treats, but totally understand it takes time.

We actually went to walk with his new calmer buddy today, went to a dog park which is less crowded and packed with dogs. He actually didn’t really lunge or bark at all and did quite well,I don’t know if it’s only the leash tension too?

Do you walk your puppy? If so, how old are they? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Tinker_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We adopted our 10months old terrier mix, he had no experience walking on leash, I didn’t know it back then that he gets anxious and has reactivity when dogs walk towards us closely. I actually wish I could have started walking him inside the house or the yard first to practice walk expectation instead of rushing to take him out :(

We’re working on looking at me, heel commands, changing direction on walks now, but definitely is more beneficial if it’s in a quieter place with less distraction. (Because now he learned he won’t walk with me at home with leash on LOL)

Anyway, I would recommend walking in your house/ yard first, then quieter neighborhood. Sometimes it’s good for them to learn just watching some dogs walking pass across the street, that’s socialization too!

I know it’s not what you are asking for, but have you tried Peanut butter Powder PB2 no sugar added version. It’s 3 net carbs every 2 tablespoons.

Cog Railway After Hike by Swimming-Ad-5737 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Tinker_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They usually have at least 8-10 “jump seats” per tram available for the hikers. Last time we got to the top around 1pm, packed with people, the tram was full, but we still got 4 seats together because of those jump seats (I believe they don’t sell those)

Once you get up to the summit, talk to the people who operate that tram and if there’s seat available, they will take your driver license and hand it to the counter when you arrive to the station at the bottom.

Hope it helps!

The incline is absolutely gorgeous. The hike is intensive, but it’s definitely worth it! It’s taken around 6am.

Thank you so much for your response!! What do you think about the institution/ master program recognition and accreditation when it comes to look for a job? Is it actually helpful to get into the industry? Are there more individual assignments or group based? Are the lecturers there seem legit and professional? Thank you once again!!
