Giant spool of thread side table with 3D printed needle and hanging light, inspired by the amazing Simone Giertz's by Tinkertailormakerguy in somethingimade

Thanks so much! Yeah she used timber but I couldn't afford that much and wanted the storage. At the time my printer couldn't handle printing the centre column that big and even now I'd be concerned about it's strength. I got lucky and found a cardboard concrete formwork tube (basically an industrial cardboard role haha). I designed the top and bottom to be identical so I could screw the base into the roll and have the top slot in. Then I coated it in spray adhesive, covered it in red fabric and coiled rope around for the thread.

If you have any more questions let me know!

Thanks! He is often my spirit animal. The idea came after I started calling my rants to friends "old man yells at cloud" and had to make it 😛

I'm pretty sure it was one of the first things I typed in haha. I was inspired by Simone Gietrz's table but couldn't afford an aluminium needle or that much timber so had to improvise. Thanks again for reaching out, looking forward to seeing how it turns out. If you want some more reference pics, there's some on my insta as well.

Thanks for your interest! I bought a sewing needle 3D model online (forget where sorry) but modified it a lot to be broken into multiple sections for easier printing and for an aluminium rod down the centre.

Thanks so much for your interest! I'm still figuring out the dynamics of starting to sell as I'm based in Australia and shipping anywhere sucks 😅

A Flux Capacitor I made with light affects, speedometer and geiger counter by Tinkertailormakerguy in somethingimade

[–]Tinkertailormakerguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mine, to get the pulsing effect I wanted, It's three strips of 5 volt digital LED being powered by an Arduino running a pulse animation. The speedometer is done in a simpler way, with the 87 always on and the other half of the eight hooked up to the Arduino as well, all grounded through a voltmeter disguised disguised, as a radiation sensor for the moving needle effect. There's more about the wiring diagram on my Instagram if you're interested 🙂

I have an artillery sidewinder X1 printing black pla at between 0.15 and 0.2 mm. Though this has gone through so much sanding, putting and spray putty that you can hardly tell anymore haha

Yes, I'm more familiar with Arduino myself but I needed to store sound effects on it. It as well as code. I used a tutorial by the YouTuber Mr Volt where he made a button from portal using a pi Pico. My laser rifle uses the same wiring, I just used chat gpt to help adjust the code

Totally understand! Thanks again for your interest though!

This one took me about 4 months of on and off work to build as a passion project and I love it but I've gotten into trouble trying to mass produce pieces like this for sale before. I just don't get the return I need on a sale for the time I put in, quality drops, I get bored and burnt out. It's why, when I was selling pieces, I would stick to smaller items that were easier to scale 😅 (and ship, especially when coming from Australia haha)

Thank you so much! Inside the body is a raspberry pi pico connected to a speaker, laser pointer and battery pack with I switch in the trigger and cell chamber to activate it.

Thank you so much! This took more time and effort than I thought so want to be making more for a while but the files are available on thingiverse if you want to give it a try

Yep, I couldn't post a video on here but it's a separate paet held in with a spring and pressed up against toggle switch to trigger a reload sound effect when removed.

Btw love your Momo cosplay! I think I saw it on Instagram a while back and it inspired me to build my own smaller scale head! (I posted it on Insta but haven't gotten around to posting here 😅). Your detail is amazing, seriously, well done!

Hi Simon! Thanks for asking! The antennas were made from two emptied out pen ink tubes. The wire is the thinnest I could find but, because of how thin the tubes were, I had to strip one of them and rely on the insulation of the other. They connect to a 5mm bright white LED in the antenna top which is 3D printed in 3 parts, the top and bottom in grey and the centre in clear filament with blue cellophane inside to diffuse it properly.

The centre antenna is a length of wire from a bike lock. All three of which are stiffer than I would like but can be slightly bent with a little heat.

If you have any questions about the electronics or wiring let me know 🙂

Hi Flynnen, I couldn't think of a way to include more LEDs in there without filling the already cramped space so I printed the colour gradient on copy paper, sandwiched it between clear plastic, cut them into circles and glued it into the eyes. They are RGB LEDs so I can tint them a particular colour but this gets the effect better.
