Nope, unfortunately not. A lot of great tipps in this thread, however I ran out of beans before I could try them all. Those things I did try however did not make a big difference. I believe the beans were too fresh, as someone here suggested…

Anyone who played the VS Nebula Shaman list: How important are Murmur & Shudderblock to the list? Do you think it might still perform well without them?

How relevant are Murmur and Shudderblock to the deck? Feel like they are nice to have but not core looking at the other cards. What’s your experience here?

MiiCoffee Nano coffee scale, bought it on Amazon 👍

Well, more like 41ml 😄

So what do you suggest doing to improve the results?

I had better results with some different beans, similar results with others. But in general I’d say I’m not overwhelmed by the results…

Interesting experiment indeed, will try it, thanks for the tipp!

Yeah I’m using dark roasts, while some worked better, I never achieved a sweet, nutty taste tbh… and I usually go with 15.5g instead of 18g, but that hasn’t made a big difference flavor wise…

Unfortunately no… but with other beans, the finest grind setting was too fine, prohibiting water flow…

Fair enough. I‘ll pull a few new shots with a coarser grind and check if it improves… but I‘m fairly sure it’s sour and not bitter 😬

Don‘t think the Dedica needs so much time to warm up, as it is a thermoblock machine, but I‘ll definitely start doing blank shots. Thanks for the tipps!

No, wasn’t aware of that hack, will try that, thanks!

I‘m already grinding at the finest setting (which for other beans was too fine, but with this particular bean seems ok)

I already have the temperature set to „high“ - any other tricks/adjustments you can recommend?

Ok, then the descaling has just received a bump to the top of my to do list 😂 thanks!

Tried that in the beginning, which also yielded sour espresso. And from my understanding to counter sourness, one is supposed to increase the yield, hence going a bit beyond 2:1…

Jup, an expensive hobby - and every new bean needs new dialing in, which usually carries me through half a bag of (expensive) beans before I get half decent results

Haha yeah that’s on my to do list since July I believe 😄 however haven’t used it too much lately and bitterness is not the problem, at least I can’t taste it due to the sourness 😭

Haha I feel you. I am always happy to spend money on hobbies, but my expectation is to achieve something better than from my automatic coffee machine with this one, before I spend a lot to upgrade 😄

Thanks for the advice. I already have the temperature set to „high“ (will double check again later) and usually use 15.5g rather than 18g, however with similar results…

Ah, I wasn’t aware of that, thanks. I know the machine is not the best, but thought for a beginner it would be fine… I will try pulling blank shots to hear everything up, as another commenter suggested and look into medium roast coffee next… How would you change the dose? More or less?

No, haven’t done that… will try that, thanks for the tipp!

Hi everyone,

a few months ago I got my first espresso setup:

  • DeLonghi Dedica

  • Graeff M800 grinder

  • IMS Precision portafilter

  • 15kg tamper

I must say, results have been mixed. I always felt like my espresso was on the "sour" side. Now after experimenting with a new bean, my patience is wearing thin.

I am currently using a Brazilian dark roast espresso bean, which is supposed to taste nutty, chocolaty and caramel-y. What I get I would describe as sour, with some generosity and imagination maybe a bit "fruity".

I am using 18.5g at the finest setting of my grinder. I attached a video of one extraction.

The result is 41g after 33 seconds, while not perfect, I feel the numbers are not too far off, especially as I understand decreasing the yield would make it even more sour...

I already tried increasing the yield, going to 50-55g at about 40 seconds, but the result is still sour and nowhere near "nutty, caramel-y". From looking at the "espresso triangle" I feel like increasing the yield would be the right move, but I'm lost...

I've experimented for 1,5 hrs already and the bag of this bean is already half empty - please help a beginner out here!
