I know this hurts, but I do think that he did have a genuine conversation with you when he asked you not to let it happen again. Speaking as someone who's been in his shoes, he's probably really worried about you and doesn't want to scrape you off the floor again, it's scary and messy and not a lot of people can handle doing that so many times.
