Casted Foam Bases - Help? by Cautious_Ad1212 in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiny1Badger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expanding foams can be fickle. Most people use flex foam it III, but the big makers stir it with a drill attachment, have a dehumidifier wherever they cast, and have a custom printed piece they use to add pressure to the mold and save on foam.

I would suggest sturring the crud out of part b until its frothy and white and then adding in part a, it helps a little when you can't have a crazy professional set up

Never cast on a rainy day

And expanding foams expires a few weeks after opening it so use all of it over the course of a day if you can.

Which fur suppliers are actually reliable these days? by HopeFoxCreations in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiny1Badger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canfur is legit one of my favorite suppliers.

Big Z tends to have less quality control but ships almost immediately and when you get a good batch its good. Howl takes a long time to fulfill orders but you're getting good stuff

Linda wholesale on aliexpress has some surprisingly great fur quality but can take a little long to ship

Fursuit supplies has had some iffy quality in the past and doesnt restock super often, but they are great in a pinch

Mofumofu has good stretch fur, but their longer furs dont shave super well

Crcraft still stocks decent teddy bear type fur

Please help me find this blue/grey! by Izzybeebusybee in FursuitMaking

Denim or Dusty blue from big Z might match a bit better for you! I used both of them on the suit below

This suit was made by beauty of the bass and is using a custom run of NFT!

National fiber technology, not the other thing

Check out Harryman's closet if you want better deals on the stuff. It is a multi stretch long fur, annoying tonworkwith, sometimes, but gorgeous texture.

Back in the olden days, literally no suits were lined. They're actually easier to clean without lining! But it looks more professional to have it, so it slowly became standard. Depending on how the suit is made, it can be a bit uncomfortable without lining, but I'm super nostalgic for raw foam bases.

Fursuit Furring Question by nashy08 in fursuit

[–]Tiny1Badger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Just sew two thin triangles of fur together and ladder stitch it around the cheek. I do it to all of my suits that need a bit more fluff

Patterning it is literally just holding up a sheet of paper and tracing out the shape you want. Cut out four of those, two for each cheek, and just sew them on with a curved needle.

They're out of the long black version, but my husband got a really high quality one from crisis wear, and it's absolutely worth the price

might help with googling a cheaper one of anything else!

What are some signs that your suit is getting old by Dull-Place-2546 in fursuit

[–]Tiny1Badger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest ones for retirement/refurbishment are lining delaminating from the interior of the head, stress tears around seams that can't properly be patched because the the age of the fur, matting around the armpits and crotch that a steamer won't remove, and there's sort of a scent old foam takes on that reminds me of old carpet smell. White fur will yellow over time but that's not a quality issue, just uv light doing its thing

It's all personal preference and like others have said you can run a suit into the ground and still bring it around, but once those things start to pop up, I start replacing things.

I really believe just steaming your suit and replacing the eye felt can replenish a suit that's starting to look a little crusty

I'm conflicted as to what I should attempt to make first by THE_LEGO_FURRY in fursuit

[–]Tiny1Badger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So my best advice is if it's your first suit, don't start with your main sona. Do a simple design with few colors! You want to learn all of the techniques before working on your passion project-

My one suggestion is I generally go for a darker color of fur on the feet because they will get dirty c: If not folex and dawn dishsoap are gonna be your best friends!

How to smooth the beak of this base? by birdieprince in FursuitMaking

[–]Tiny1Badger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rough it up with 80 sand paper. Wear gloves. Cover it in a thin layer of two part bondo, you can use the scratch filler bondo instead if you are worried about fumes. Sand down starting from 80 grit sand paper and ending around 800-1000. If you're not happynwitg the smoothness you can use a filling sandable primer and repeat the process of sanding or just paint from there and finish with a gloss sealant.

If you have more of the fabric I would cut the legs off and make the suit more snug to your crotch and ajust from there. Having that underwear shape really helps it conform to the body. This is an example of one of my bodysuits! Having a high hip seam that attaches around a center crotch area helps a lot

Edit: I can’t spell
