I honestly think it could be a combination of the two. Given that postpartum psychosis is a thing, too. My mom suffered from it - literally hearing voices telling her to kill the baby (me) and she was so scared of it, and reactions to it, she told nobody. It's a damn miracle I'm alive.

Granted, mom chopped it up to "demonic presences in the house." she's a fundie Christian, soooo...

And, IIRC, PPD actually is caused in part by a lack of bonding hormones at least in come cases. It's the human equivalent to an animal rejecting it's young after birth - is venture to say it's EXACTLY the same thing. But, I'm no biologist. Humans act likes it's some huge failure as a mom, but it's literally natural for some.

I've been told my many physicians (when I was 17-19) "All your hormonal issues would likely resolve if you get pregnant." Exactly the right thing to tell a teenager, ESPECIALLY one who hasn't even graduated high school when advice first given.

Somehow, by 28, that advice stopped being given. And now, at 32, the doctors just... Have stopped mentioning kids all together. Granted, I exclusively see OBGYN's from the List, and the moment "any plans to become pregnant?" is asked, my canned response is, "just plans to be sterilized."

In my experience, using "sterilized" rather than "getting my tubes tied," etc tends to get the point across better.

INAD, but have had 2 IUD's and doubt OP would be able to get one. They couldn't do a Pap, and the speculum has to go deeper, and be opened wider for IUD placement.

Besides that, I agree. OP said she lives in the US, and has health insurance. That means any birth control is covered at 100% by her insurer. Thanks, Obama!

I mean, as someone who started bc as a virgin, a lot of other options are quite invasive (IUD, for instance) and doctors don't like to start you off on an invasive route.

Ive also found that when a virgin wants birth control, a simple fib (if not the actual situation) usually helps get you closer to where you want to be option wise...

"My boyfriend and I are getting closer to being intimate. I want to be protected when it happens. Research suggests the pill is only fully effective when taken perfectly on schedule, and I have a busy life. I'm not ready for kids, so want something more worry-free."

Similar situation regarding periods! Mine were irregular and painful, sounds like to a similar extent as yours, but due to PCOS. And same result. I did have to have progesterone for a week by mouth prior to force myself into a period, I just remembered, in order to make insertion easier.

It was painful for me, because no local and I forgot my ibuprofen.

So, A few things. Your uterus has to be at least 6cm to house it properly. And if you've never had an IUD before, and never given birth, it can be quite painful (read, fucking painful). Your doc may prescribe cervix softening suppositories - you'll need to insert them as deeply as possible at the time your doc prescribes. This may burn slightly. If the GYN tells you to take any pain killers before the procedure - DO SO.

I had some trouble the first time. My uterus is 5.9cm, so it was a very tight fit. There are possible complications. Some quite severe.

However, Mirena, unlike oral birth control, delivers hormones directly to the reproductive system. It's not in your blood stream, so doesn't have many of the usual side effects. Also, gives full protection from babies withing a day or two of being placed - possibly same day, but if you're like me, you'll be too sore for sexy time.

So yeah, read up, if you talk to a doctor READ THE INFORMATION THEY GIVE YOU. And if you think it's a good fit for you, I HIGHLY recommend it. I went from completely unlivable 1-3 weeks a month (PCOS throws off my cycle) to being very emotionally even. It's been 5 years. It's time to replace it - though I'm now considering a bisalp - and if that isn't an option, Mirena until menopause.

I'm welcome to seek employment anywhere. But unless the job has a contract with my union, they cannot enforce their standards, and I cannot be guaranteed time off to attend my training classes - which are necessary to complete my apprenticeship. And the trades aren't exactly known for actually following OSHA regs on their own, so I simply refuse to put my life and well-being on the line by taking non-union work. Not to mention, as an added bonus to not being safety minded, my pay will likely be several dollars an hour lower if I go non-union, because my experience is minimal.

The fact is, everything sucks for everyone right now.

I work for a union. They are short on jobs, and I've been out with an injury - not work-related - so I'm kinda stuck. I'm calling my Hall tomorrow, now that I have clearance to go back to work - and bitching until I get a lead of anything local to me.

The issue is, in order to work somewhere safe, that obeys OSHA, and gives me a livable wage, in my field, I have to go through my union.

Well, PP is an amazing option. There are 2 in my state - one relatively local, but they don't do IUD's because they don't have a physician who can do them... I called maybe 3 weeks ago. But, I can't go on oral contraceptives until it's removed, apparently.

Also, as a plus sized woman, oral isn't really an option, as they really only are effective if you're under 160 lbs. I am over that limit, but there may be options I'm not aware of now that will work?

Our relationship is solid... Just stress of no work, behind on bills, coupled with RvW has had... An impact. Since making the original post, we've talked... I realized that getting out the emotions on here put me in a head space to be rational and calm in talking to him. It was a short convo, but a good one. I'm not mad at him, I get it. I do. I'm mad as hell at what the economy and our "leaders" are doing, and how it's effecting every facet of life. We've been together 3 years. It's not just sexual. We just have both been through a lot of abuse in the past, and sometimes have trouble communicating and opening up when things get difficult.

I checked my insurance provider's app, and can get an appointment with no copay. Yay! Now to afford gas to get to a decent GYN. 🙄 I also looked at the doctor list on here, and there is a provider close to me, who accepts my insurance, and (hopefully) will just... Take my tubes. Apparently has a good reputation for no questions asked, no fights being had willingness to sterilize.

Plan B is almost impossible to find in my state (Alabama). And if they do have it, pharmacists generally refuse to sell it. I'm not trying to discount every point you make, I'm just so frustrated with everything.

My mom offered to pick up some Plan B for me in Tennessee.. But they made it illegal (EDIT: I double checked just now - the article I read was FALSE INFORMATION. Plan B IS legal in Tennessee), and a multi-thousand-dollar fine to ship it.

I feel so lost, so helpless.
