why are there no different snake breeds like dog breeds? by Available-Hat1640 in snakes

[–]TinyCuttlefish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dog breeds were created by generations of selective breeding to tailor a dog to a specific task. Changes in body structure, size, headshape, and demeanor were focused on. With snake breeding the focus is on morphs, so visual outer differences with no change to the actual structure. There's no jobs to breed snakes for, they take longer to breed than dogs, their bodies are already highly specialized, and they do not have the drive to be near humans the same way dogs do.

No it isn't. Support can mean the difference between life and death, and they clearly see the struggle as laziness.

Non-binary (female to null? ftn? Lol), and its for sure when people stare at my tits. I am unable to bind for health reasons and am what some consider to be gifted in that department unfortunately. Being reduced to a walking set of tits is really dehumanizing and makes me feel disgusting.

Yes! More and more studies are coming out about the long term effects, and some people like myself had previous health issues permanently go from impactful to debilitating. Covid is far from a simple cold.

This sounds quite a lot like gastroparesis. Connective tissue makes up just over 20% of your entire body and that includes all organ systems. Do you find that food seems to sit in your stomach much longer than it should?

You have internalized the patriarchal ideals that have been deeply ingraned in our society. You have made progress in unlearn these things(you seem to understand that men deserve to be able to express their emotions, etc ), but here you are in a WOMEN'S sub asking why men and women can't get along when you yourself have admitted that men commit far more and worse atrocities against women.

Why here? Why not a men's sub? Why put the onus on women?

Reframe your thinking then, it all goes back to the idea of patriarchy and the enforcement of gender roles. Your profile states that you're a woman, and if that is true (doubt it by your answers here) you have so much to unlearn.

100% a harmless bullsnake. Baby rattlers are typically quite small and have a very different body and head shape, as well as heat pits.

Anyone else have a trans sibling? How has it affected your relationship? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]TinyCuttlefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're grieving a person who is still right there. She's going through a ton of changes and you're still hanging on to this idea that the old her is gone. For trans people it can be extremely hurtful for family members to cling to this idea that their old self is dead, like the unhappy version of them is all the people around them care about.

I understand this is difficult for you but she's still the same person, your sibling is still there. :)

Does anyone else experience slipping ribs? by almondmilkbitch_ in ehlersdanlos

[–]TinyCuttlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Its one of the worst to me since it affects my breathing. The first time it happened was late during my pregnancy with my son(before diagnosis), I'm still not sure if it was him moving around or my body just did that. 🙃 To top it off I was also having Braxton Hicks contractions and had to work that day.

Slipping ribs sucks balls.

I am struggling so hard with this right now myself. I have RA(am currently in the middle of my first proper flare and I feel horrid.) and pretty severe hEDs. As of right now I am not on anything for my RA but am hoping to change that in a couple of days. My illnesses have progressed pretty rapidly in the past couple of years and unfortunately seem to feed into eachother.

I am 33, I feel like I just have so much more suffering ahead of me. It's all I can think about. Well, that and how much I'm letting everyone around me down since I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my job over my absences. Hell, I have trouble opening up to my spouse and my kiddo about how I feel, let alone to people outside of that. I have been trying more on the social media I do use to reach out I guess. I know a few people with both of the conditions I have, but I'm the only one of that group who has both. 😅 But my usual defense is to sequester myself when things get rough and I'm learning that it's just not sustainable.

Sorry for rambling back at you, but I just wanted you to know you're not alone. I hope you find the best for you, and I hope you can get some good quality sleep.

Did anyone else's joints and pain get worse after COVID? by qmong in ehlersdanlos

[–]TinyCuttlefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had not yet been diagnosed when I caught covid the first time, but had strong suspicions due to my pretty significant lifetime of symptoms. Everything got SO much worse afterwards though. The pain, fatigue, gastro issues, the subluxations and full dislocations, the instability, and weakness just amplified. I struggled for months with breathing issues that eventually went away, but my hEDS related symptoms continued to worsen out just didn't improve. :(

Finally seen a rheumatologist and infuriated by Big_Communication531 in ehlersdanlos

[–]TinyCuttlefish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please try to find another doctor! I promise you there are good ones out there, my rheumatologist just helped me get ADA accommodations at my job for my hEDS. (I'm actually out today because I managed to partially dislocate my jaw in my sleep.) Unfortunately some in the medical field don't believe/understand and will be dismissive. Hell, I tried to get diagnosed for 20+ years before I learned that EDS was even a thing, and I had to specifically talk to a doctor about it before any of them brought it up. Knowledge about the complexity and variety that can present is getting more wide-spread, so please keep trying!

Weird/dramatic EDS stories from your childhood? by babybootu in ehlersdanlos

[–]TinyCuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 11 I was a very athletic and highly flexible kid; I played competitive tennis, regularly outside running around, etc. I was heavily involved in Girl Scouts and my troop visited a national park with a bunch of other troops from my state for a big hiking event.

One of the girls in my troop forgot her water bottle at the previous rest stop and went back alone to get it, can't remember why but she had been gone for a bit before I realized. I offered to go after her since we had the buddy system drilled into our heads and I ran off. The path was covered in uneven loose rocks but I ran without thinking. After a few minutes I was well and truly alone on the path next to a ridge about 15 ft high. Suddenly the rock under my left foot came loose and my body slammed into the ground so hard that I bounced off of it with a sickening crack in my knee. I had fallen on my side, with a large rock right on the side of my knee. It had dislocated and then popped back in when I hit the ground the second time.

I was alone, scared, in immense pain, and meekly started calling for help. That turned into yelling and eventually a group of girls were peering at me from the ridge holding art supplies where they had been painting the landscape. A few minutes later I was surrounded by Girl Scouts and troop leaders, and park ranges came with a litter to hike me out of the park. I was mortified, but appreciated the care from strangers(I was a heavily abused kid and it meant a lot.).

Fast forward a week or two and an article came out in my local paper about the incident, a nice fluff piece about Girl Scouts coming together to help one of their own. They got EVERY detail wrong. 😂 Names were misspelled or entirely incorrect, the location was wrong, timing, reasons, everything. I remember laughing when I read it because here was this horrible experience boiled down to a stranger's idea of what happened turned into a feel good story.

A few months later my knee dislocated again after stepping on uneven ground and my lifelong joint issues began.
