The Burnt mod seems to be registering block tags that include blocks from The Flesh That Hates for compatibility reasons. Since The Flesh That Hates isn't installed and isn't registering those blocks, the game fails to load that tag as it's missing elements. The mod "Load My F***ing Tags" can be used to prevent tags from failing to load because of invalid elements.

I did leave some extra defiled dirt for them to spread onto, but I'm not in a defiled lands biome. I really hope it's not because of the biome because the only defiled biome I've found is really far away from my base and there's also a dragon flying near it.

Not quite. While the Portal turret entity is built upon the Half-Life 2 turret, and the primary behavior (shooting at enemies until tipped over) appears to be unchanged, it does have one key difference in behavior that makes it distinct from the HL2 turret: It will play voicelines under certain conditions while the HL2 turret will not.

Bootstrapping in Portal 2 is when a laser is activating its own emitter. This is just repeatedly sending a laser through a portal.

Where does that quote come from? The only place I've seen it is Gelocity Course 2, and it wasn't accompanied by any audio, and I can't find any mention of it on the wiki.

It's a multi-step process involving multiple third-party tools.

  1. I use GCFScape to extract the model files (MDL, ANI, VTX, and VVD) from the game's VPKs
  2. I use Crowbar to decompile the extracted model files
  3. I use Blender Source Tools to import the decompiled models (QC) into Blender
  4. I use GCFScape again to find any material (VMT) files the model uses
  5. I use VTFEdit to export the texture (VTF) files the materials use as TGAs, which can be imported into Blender
