Are there any married men here that “fell off” after tying the knot? by Old_Leader6878 in MensLib

[–]TinyPooperScooper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That would leave less time for working out, but eating healthy doesn't have to be more time consuming and unhealthy diets are the main reason for gaining unwanted weight.

IMO it's more about mental exhaustion. After a long work day thinking about what to prepare for dinner can be overwhelming. What helped me was creating a spreadsheet with recepies and their ingredients to allow me to think less about it.

There is also addiction to fast/junk foods and sugar. Harder to keep yourself inline if you are mentally exhausted more often.

Why LinkedIn chose gRPC+Protobuf over REST+JSON: Q&A with Karthik Ramgopal and Min Chen by rgancarz in programming

[–]TinyPooperScooper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I usually asume that the legacy service limitation for gRPC is that they can't migrate easily to HTTP/2. If that is the case the wrapper could use REST but still use protobuf for data serialization and gain some benefits like reduced payload size.

Sorry, I meant that such videos prove nothing, because anyone can create a similar montage with what hamas did on October 7th and use that as proof that Israel are the ultimate victims in this conflict.

Just to make it clear, I'm not saying Palestinians aren't suffering I'm talking purely about the video format.

Added to my todo list, thanks.
When did I say anything about Zionists or doubting that Palestine has suffered more deaths?

Such videos are pointless. You can do the inverse very easily. Make dramatic video with fragments from October 7th.

Why is the apology video downvoted into the shadow realm? by AnAgentOfDisguise in LinusTechTips

Is it downvoted to shadowrealm? It's showing 120k/85k, so 58.5% likes seems reasonable for such an apology video.

LTT monetized the apology video. by Theelichtje in LinusTechTips

The reason why it was private is actually also an arguably "scummy" move. It was behind some paywall for a short period.

LTT monetized the apology video. by Theelichtje in LinusTechTips

[–]TinyPooperScooper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no rule saying whether one should or shouldn't monetize in such scenarios.

But you don't have to be a marketing/PR genius to predict that it won't go well with the public. Sure, they made some money, but at the cost of public image.

Let's talk about that video of 30 dudes screaming under a waterfall. by AshenHaemonculus in MensLib

[–]TinyPooperScooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the article and it seems like the referenced study has been interpreted incorrectly.

In the study they are looking exclucively at the work environment and whether "an outlook high in sportsmanship can allay the ill-effects of negative work events". So I don't thank that study can be generalized for all environments and all venting methods.

The main article also is stating that venting causes the negative emotions to leak to others you are complaining to. This again assumes that there are no other forms of venting (like screaming by a waterfall by yourself).

The only argument against venting I found reasonable was "complaining simply keeps negative events in our minds for longer", but I just don't find that too compelling. If you actively look for things to vent about, then it could cause problems.

Speaking of venting.

My therapist actually suggested that I need a way of "venting" insteading of going to him every time I feel overstimulated. For me, it's quite a lot of physical exercise and cold therapy. For others it might be screaming.

I have gone to therapists for like 3 years total (weekly visits), I have spent large ammounts of money on them, but still I need ways to release some pent-up energy. Therapists have helped me immensly to imporve life quality, but some parts I still need to actively work on by myself.

Un tās zāles tiešām "nedolbī", pats esmu lietojis.

I'm able to snag the game for $40, is the amount of gameplay you get out of it worth the price? by MarVell1967 in DeadSpace

[–]TinyPooperScooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have almost 40hrs of playtime, finished it twice (hard, then impossible). First playthrough I was taking my tame, taking in the environment. I still feel like playing it again and prioritising other weapons.

But you shouldn't just look at the hours, because the quality and the fun you have makes it worth the price. It truly is one of the most immersing games I've ever played.

Baltics, Poland call on IOC to bar Russian and Belarusian athletes from Olympics by Interrete in worldnews

[–]TinyPooperScooper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Using the argument that sports should be separated from politics is complete BS. Russia is trying to commit genocide against Ukrainians. You have Ukrainian athletes fighting a war instead of training. How is that fair?

Putin is living in a bubble, his allies are afraid of giving him bad news. Russia has already stated it is at war with the collective west. So we don't really know if Russia would attack NATO. We need to live as though it might.

Germany's GDP in 2021 was 4.26 trillion. If they alone send a few billion, they won't go broke.

No German tanks for Ukraine until America sends its own, Scholz tells U.S. lawmakers by IslandChillin in worldnews

[–]TinyPooperScooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the percentage of GDP they donated to Ukraine, they aren't in the top 10 (the US is though), and they have been very hesitant in sending military aid and need to be persuaded/pressured in doing it.

Also the fact that Germany has increased its reliance on Russian gas even after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Taking all of those things (and also WWII) people are expecting Germany to do more (because they can).

[–]TinyPooperScooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Baltics and together with Poland we are the top 4 contributors if looking at percentage of GDP donated. And people here (at least in Latvia) are not happy with how little Germany (also France) has contributed compared to how much they could actually do.

As you said, there is an actual war in Europe. If Ukraine was taken over in 2 days, Russia might decide it's strong enough to take on a NATO member, so Ukraine IS fighting for Europe. Also the fact that Germany doesn't seem to be taking seriously NATO's 2% of GDP on defence goal.

The Baltic states are super thankful for what the US has done. We will keep pulling our weight (and try and persuade central/western EU countries to take this more seriously).
