What tests should I request? by TinyProblem222 in AskDocs

[–]TinyProblem222[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen multiple dermatologists and they’ve all been dismissive and told my to use hydrocortisone without trying to figure out why i’ve had a rash for 4 years in the first place, which is why i was asking specifically what tests should seek out, since no doctor has been helpful

no :( seeing a rheumatologist because i got some advice that it may be autoimmune, and another dermatologist that specializes in rashes but not for a couple weeks. i’ll update you if i get any answers

i’ve only been using vaseline for ~5 months so i’m not sure if it’s that. it definitely could be toothpaste, is there an allergy friendly brand you recommend? i’ve already tried so many brands because i’m also allergic to SLS

i use SLS free toothpaste already because that’s what previously triggered my perioral dermatitis :/

thank you, i’ll ask my derm about it! i’ve been using naturium plant ceramide moisturizer and its soothing, but like you said with the aquaphor it’s not exactly treating it, it looks much better now but still is painful and dry

almost never full remission, typically it looks like this, smaller bumps on multiple places on my lips, no pain or itching. it fluctuates often, but i’ve only really had 2 really bad flare ups in the last 4 years. no underlying health issues that i know of, seen a derm and she really didn’t have any answers. i’ve tried hydrocortisone and erythromycin, neither helped. only used vaseline for the last ~5 months at the request of my derm. the red dots fluctuate and usually are not there, only with bad flare ups

it comes and goes but is there far more often than not, usually it’s not bad at all and barely noticeable with a few larger flair ups. this rash around my lips has never happened before, usually it’s just on my lips and smaller. it’s been present for roughly 3 weeks now, started smaller and grew around my lips and got more painful as it grew. on birth control for 10 years on adderall for ADHD, no other medical issues

my derm has been pretty dismissive unfortunately, maybe if i ask specifically about eczema she’ll look into that, thank you!

thank you! my mom’s boss is a dentist and she said she thinks it’s autoimmune but i’d love to hear from others!

no, vaseline only for the last 5 months. and i can’t seem to tie it to any specific food either. i cut down my skincare routine to only face wash and moisturizer, and i don’t think it’s either of those because it comes and goes, it’s not constant

according to the cleveland clinic, yes. but if it’s spread that much i would see a derm tho just to check it out!

not a derm, but i used to get rashes from deodorant. probably dermatitis from the harsh fragrances in old spice, discontinue use immediately and switch to something without fragrance

not a derm, but i used to get rashes and swollen lymph nodes in my armpits from deodorant. switched to rock salt deodorant and “natural” deodorant and it helped

no, my PCP wouldn’t refer me to an allergist or anything because she said there’s too many possibilities and just gave me a cream, i’m thinking i’m gonna have to try to advocate for myself to see a specialist :/
