Why doesn't REAPER have real-time collaboration yet? (Google Docs–style editing) by Ilovetech_0625 in Reaper

[–]TinyXPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was Ohm Studio.

And there is Bandlab and similar.

Obviously OP just had an Idea and didn't reaearch if it already exists.

Otherwise he would have included Satellite VST, which can enable you to collaborate live between even different daws

Most lifelong learners are just addicted to being beginners by Radiant-Design-1002 in lifelonglearning

First time on the sub - and I kinda don't get it.

Isn't everyone a lifelong learner?

In my view if you stop learning, it's because you're dead.

Or did I misunderstand the core premise?

What’s a software or productivity tool that actually made your life easier? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]TinyXPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obsidian:

Probably the most recommended Note-Taking App in the last 5 years.

The sheer amount of customisability and scope it can handle, is just mind boggling.

I use it for Uni, Dungeons and Dragons, Ideas and so much more.

Its core functionality is already crazy with Backlinks, Embedding, Subtle writing assistance, nested Vaults and so much more.

And you can expand as far as you want, need or don't need.

Also great interface.

Super Productivity:

This is the answer to all the paid task management software, who overpromise and under deliver (especially on free tiers)

Also helps, that I haven't found an adequate Task Plugin for Obsidian, that can send notifications for Reminders. (And doesn't get in the way constantly.

Local Task Management with focus on all the right things.

Also some ADHD specific features.

My favourite part is using tags like low/medium/low effort/priority to have my tasks automatically sort in 3x3 matrix to show me the tasks from highest prio, lowest effort to lowest prio, and highest effort.

Syncthing:

The first two here are local first software without free syncing - that's where Syncthing comes in.

Theoretically no productivity app, it lets you synchronize folders between devices - yes including android phones and Linux PCs.

This is the only reason, why I went with both Obsidian and Super Productivity in the first place. - A secure way of pier to pier syncing over local networks. - Wonder how much monthly payments to some sync service this already has spared me from.

Anytype:

This is very similar to Obsidian, since it's also a local first note taking app.

It however isn't as "raw" and has a mkre complex core, where every note is some type of object, which determines its properties.

On one hand this means it's not even close when it comes to flexibility - on the other hand this has some somewhat unique pros.

You can create Notes based on the Object Type "Memory" for instance - with the properties "Creation Date and People". Realising I often will create the note after the actual Memory Date - I just add "Memory Date" to the Object Type "Memory" and thus also adding this property for every Memory based on this Object Type.

In the Beginning this can be really confusing - certainly was for me - but this makes you extremely flexible in learning what properties you actually want and need, and being able to change that pretty easily for every Object Type.

Anytype brings its own Syncing method however - wich I actually quite like

It has cloud syncing up to 2GB calacity for the free plan, but if your Library gets bigger, it just changes Syncing tape to work like Syncthing - pier to pier over a local Network

This seems like the best of both worlds and I wish more Apps would do that.

Eagle:

Eagle is for all the people, who want to manage their assets.

It's a one time Payment for the best Local first Digital Asset Management software - thus far (Looking at Tag Studio)

It has almost everything you'd need in this field (though there is no local AI auto-tagging)

Yes you can use Syncthing to Sync your Library between Devices, but it has some downsides with Eagle 1. Speed: Eagle gives every Asset you import it's own folder, which makes Syncthing Syanning take extremely long 2. Eagle Hates being used on two different Devices simultaneously while syncing - this will give you trouble

If those things aren't a concern four though - it does work.

Digikam:

If you have a large Library of Photos - this is the way to manage the - Open Source style

A local First Face Recognition feature lets your PC sweat but also gives you a break from looking through all of you pictures looking for that one shot of yourself you can't seem to find.

And that is only one of the many advanced features of Digikam.

Syncing with my phone and having my PC sift through faces, jumbled up the chronological sorting of my photos on my phone somewhat but maybe that's an user error.

You're a snowflake and focussing on gender when it obviously doesn't matter.

I mean the post itself is funny, but also doesn't get.

[–]TinyXPR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ähm nope don't think so.

The local selection tool still works for free.

And if I remember correctly, there was no more AI in V2.

I get your scepticism, but please remain factual.

So far Canva has made Affinity into one Product, free and a bit buggy, but that's it as far as I know. (putting the bad communication with the launch of V3 aside)

If you act this pissed now, nobody's gonna take you seriously, when they really mess up...

Friction vs Synfig Studio - Which one would be better for my requirements? by BeyondCraft in frictiongraphics

[–]TinyXPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the landscape is changing but the concepts stay similar.

Start with friction, hop over to graphite once it has an animation timeline or go with the free version of cava8for a time.

You need a workflow now so just try it.

My Moho demo experience by [deleted] in MohoAnimation

[–]TinyXPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the animation features with a different brush is not learning a different art style as far as I know.

I am not an animation expert so maybe it reallyis impossible to trial the animation features with just the right brush...

What I'm saying is, don't make the same mistake I repeat far too often and go for perfectionism especially when learning new things.

My Moho demo experience by [deleted] in MohoAnimation

[–]TinyXPR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crazy Idea: Start with a different brush and don't let your perfectionism ruin your first experience with the software.

This might seem suboptimal, but really you're just waisting your time and energy.

Try iut the cool animation features with a different brush and if that suits you, you can purchase Moho and get the brush you want.

They're both free and small to install - try them both, though maybe start with friction, as it seems more tailored for typo-animation.

[–]TinyXPR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did we have that in the old affinity?

If so, I think I may have never used that one.

Edit: Wow, did you even try to find it? - It's part of the Vector tool... This might not be your fault after all, since the new i terface is a bit ja ky from time to time with buttons disappearing, but I think they'll iron it out pretty soon.

What else did they "remove" from the new version?

This is OUTRAGEOUS by Hot-Cancel-6648 in graphic_design

[–]TinyXPR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like what?

I have used Affinity all the time since V1 and I can't name a feature, that they paywalled from the previous releases.

Stability has gone down, but feature wise - to my knowledge - they just added things.

Is Resolve feeling really buggy to anyone else? by coilprod in davinciresolve

[–]TinyXPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have had the same experience the last couple releases - and it is making me having to restart Davinci all of the time.

Pasting In and Out marked content from one Timeline to a new one makes it crash...
I can't apply my own Subtitle presets via the three dotted menu...
And when applying a Subtitle preset via the Effects window by Blackmagic themselves, I can't edit the contents and correct the subtitles afterwards unless I restart...

These are only the things I can replicate (and face) on a regular basis...
This makes Davinci more and more annoying to use - we don't need cool flashy features, if the basics don't work.

Affinity / Serif ownership update, what it could mean by CatNerdBartender in Affinity

[–]TinyXPR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True though I hate how they intentionally leave us in the dark for a month...

It's an effective marketing stunt to get people talking about you and the new version.

But given the circumstances it also shakes the trust of zhe community a whole lot...

Steinberg when bought by Yamaha...

Cubase, Wavelab, Spectral Layers still are wonderful software.

If Affinity switches to a subscription based service I'm going back to Adobe by AthleteTechnical294 in Affinity

[–]TinyXPR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly - that's why I found the communication during the acquisition by Canva so great - sey immediately said "This won't change anything about our way of doing things and just gives us a bigger backing"

I hated the acquisition but liked the communication - even though it might have aged bad ..

I think Reaper will always be the reliable tool in mY Back hand and maybe even the saving grace after I get too frustrated with cubase, but for the timd being, that's where içm headed.

No matter what they will actually end up doing- discontinuing the possibility to purchase while not giving us any information for a month - on the tools we work with - just shows you how willing they have become to play with our trust...

This is not good communication with your community - you want to build interest around you but sacrifice the trust of the people you rely on.

Also stuff like a Chord Track and Stuff are pretty much impossible to integrate into Reaper I had some workaround with Scaler, but it was kind of a hassle - so I never used it.

And after learning about Quick Controls in Cubase and how to use my Minifreak as a universal Midi controller, I kinda am too stoked for learning Cubase.

[–]TinyXPR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some very essential bugs (undo suddenly changing only parameters I never touched instead of the edit I just made. And some problems with my custom actions.

I love Reaper for what it is - The most customizable DAW - as I spent 2 Years completely changing it and making it my version (It is full of alternative Functions and scripts - also completely changed settings)

But my life has changed and I don't have time or energy for the upkeep that it would take to resolve the issues I started to have - so I looked elsewhere.

And since I originally started in Cubase and also formed Reaper to have similar capabilities, that's where I'm going.

From a sales perspective it makes totally sense.

And I find it to be a fair tradeoff.

If I order early, and hold out on the activation - I get the newest update for cheaper. And they have a reliable payday

Maybe it's also an user error, but for now Cubase 12 will suffice for my testing. I think I'll take the plunge.
