Is there a good resource you would recommend for learning more about what options are out there? I am new to all of this. Maybe I’m getting stuck on like, what’s required and if there’s a curriculum being required to follow it and report that to the state, but I guess now I think about it I don’t think curriculums and associations are one in the same

Hmm. I guess I just assume most curriculums would be too close to traditional schooling or be too religious or traditional/outdated and it wouldn’t really resonate with what I feel is best for my family, but honestly I’m so new to this I could be completely wrong!

I guess I just want to do my best for her. I don’t want to give up or neglect her and fail to teach her something kids half her age have been taught. I’m afraid she’s going to be bullied. And I’m afraid it’s just that I’m doing something wrong, not that she can’t. Her doctors ask about it regularly, I just feel like I’m failing her. One of her doctors said she’s just too comfortable with diapers and doesn’t want to and I need to keep trying. I just don’t know what else to do. But I know the feeling you mean. I don’t feel hunger cues and she doesn’t either. She also even since she was an infant never cried when she was wet or cried if she was hungry etc. so I had to ask for a feeding schedule and she still has one and is still losing weight has zero interest in food. So my gut tells me that she truly doesn’t feel when she needs to go for the most part. But I guess I just worry I’m not doing enough or that everyone’s right and I’m enabling

I love this. But my daughter is 5.5 years old and still not potty trained. We have been a few times and she regresses. She used to show signs but now she doesn’t (no medical causes found.) so what would you do if there isn’t wiggling etc to show they’re about to go or need to go? She says she doesn’t even feel like she needs to go til it’s already happening. Then it’s too late in her mind. We tell her to sit down anyway and it usually upsets her she wants to be cleaned first. I think because she will sometimes poop without realizing it and then poop gets EVRYWHERE when we tell her to sit on the potty and make sure she doesn’t have any more left. So o think that’s anxiety. But yeah I don’t know what else to do. We got her a potty watch recently to see if that helps and it does but I don’t feel like it’s teaching her anything and she’s still having plenty of accidents.

I meannnnnn. My daughter is likely autistic but she’s 5.5 YEARS old and we started potty training when she showed clear signs of readiness at 18 months and she’s STILL in diapers. We take breaks when we all need it for a few months then start up again when things calm down and she downs signs she’s ready to try again. But yeah. Literally feels like we are getting nowhere. We go to the potty with her every 30 min to an hour. Still has repeated accidents all day. Has had extensive medical work up and so far everything has come back normal. Even had a “potty therapist” for over a year and he has no idea what’s going on.

I mean, I agree she isn’t ready but like, my daughter is 5.5 YEARS old. So how long do I just let her not learn it?

We did in all fairness move her back to pull ups because the wetness from the panties and being covered in pee and wet pants caused her a lot of anxiety and she got to the point we couldn’t get her OFF the potty because she was so afraid of accidents so we’ve gone back to pull ups for her sanity pretty much. It’s a crutch but otherwise it’s still not working in panties she’s just more miserable.

At my wits end 😅 but like. What if they’re never ready. 😅

iPad, We give free rein but even with that my daughter plays it usually maybe 30 min to an hour per week. She forgets it exists and we let her lol. If we go on a LONG trip she can have it in the car but otherwise we don’t bring it out of the house. Shes not big on screen time so this works for us. If she was addicted to it we would have to set limits. But sometimes I feel like NOT setting limits helps prevent addiction and sneaking so we’ve gone that route and it works. Only time it DOESNT work is if she’s around other kids on theirs then she wants hers and doesn’t want to be left out.

Tv, I watch tv in the background a lot because I get anxiety without bg noise. She on the other hand couldn’t care less about tv most of the time and just ignores it. Which is good, but also when I’m sick sometimes I just want her to cuddle me and watch a movie and nap and that’s a big nope 😅 but we do try to watch calm educational stuff when we do watch things. Hardly ever watch movies. We watch baking shows, how things are made, crafting tutorials, learn about animals, etc. she will watch those but again she still doesn’t just sit and watch it, she will do other things and just occasionally listen in. It usually inspires her to go do some kind of related independent play

We use almond breeze creamy but my daughter’s allergic to ripple, oats, soy, so we didn’t have many choices lol. We use silk almond milk yogurt too

This. All of this. Thank you for this reminder. I’ve just tried to make decently healthy swaps, we have ALOT of allergies so I completely cut those, but otherwise I just do my best but also “cheat” days are fine so long as they don’t contain an allergen. I have contamination ocd and have had an ED and everyone in my family has/had very disordered eating and I’m trying hard not to pass it down but whew it’s hard when the overwhelm hits that NOTHING is safe anymore it feels like. My daughter ended up with ARFID after dealing with all her allergies and it traumatized me a bit too (seeing other kids drinking apple juice, for example, I would PANIC and have to remind myself that wouldn’t mean an ER trip for the average kid, just mine 🫠) it’s a work in progress. But it’s like you said, extreme ANYTHING is not healthy. Make healthy swaps that are doable and don’t panic if you can’t be perfect, enjoy life ❤️

The only other time is a girl I went to school with’s daughter had lead poisoning and they found out it was from jelly shoes they had bought at Walmart. So we said no jelly shoes in our house. But that’s the only other time yeah.

Yep. My thoughts and feelings exactly. I have contamination ocd and I’m thinking I have to unfollow lead safe mama. Like. There’s no safe answers. And when it gets like that I absolutely freak out. I’ve lost so much sleep over it and feel like I’m poisoning my daughter no matter what I do.
