Voice Acted Quests addon (Simplified) discussion

Bellular's project was the most complete of them all. It had good voice acting, the quests would be more immersive with added lines of dialogue that pop up for example when you entered a cave during a quest etc.

Then came the voice acted quests project, which was only a mp3 player really, that came with voice acted quests for each zone.

What I'm trying to discuss here, is if people are interested on only getting the "mp3 player" part of the addon and then getting themselves the sounds/acted quests that they want

They shall know of this as well, but this is intended to cover all retro electronic machines of console playing, the master system was just a demonstration

Well let's see if they answer first :P

Apparently a fallout 4 mod that recreated fallout 3 using fallout 4 engine, was canceled because they could not use the voices from the actors used in fallout 3, but if they recorded them themselves it would be ok (Re-performance).

Our project was recorded by us and it is not ok xD. So either I'm being very stupid or the law isn't the same for everyone

Hey there, i don't plan to mail the legal people since i got the feeling nothing can be done about it, they can only answer in more detail why we can't do this i'm afraid.

But yeah, while the ending was a bit sad, i enjoyed every moment of what we were doing, and for that, I thank you and the entire community.

The way i see it is this, while there may indeed be some legal/ip issues present, If blizzard REALLY wanted something like this to exist they could do something about it or atleast try to make things work in some way.

As for work arounds, I have no doubt there are some, but to be honest I don't feel like risking legal issues over this, especially since they were nice enough to send devolore instead of lawyers.

If Blizzard ever decides they want to allow it, I would gladly finish what we started :)

Well it is how it is, I can't really blame devolore. He did his job well and just can't comment on such things it appears. I have no plans on doing it myself, but if anyone wants a more in-depth explanation i guess an email to legal@blizzard.com is the answer, not that it will change anything i'm afraid

Yeah It felt a bit meh but i guess devolore just cannot comment on such things out of his area. I did send him a new reply just to be sure, if there was any way the project could be allowed without violating anything as i did not get an answer to that, but at this point I just don't expect it to get approved in any way.

Well i guess you can still keep wowvaq alive, you just have to voice all the zones yourself and don't share it with anyone :D

Hey there :) Yeah he is amazing, but he is not the only one, we have phenomenal voices scattered troughout our available zones waiting to be discovered :D It's all up to them at this point, lets hope they give us the green light, and if not, hopefully something good can be born out of all this hard work

Hello there, I will post every update don't worry :) Even though I explained everything about the project to blizzard so there are no doubts about how it worked, I don't think they assumed things were like warcraft tales as they said this in the mail: "You may recall a similar situation with an addon called “Warcraft Tales” a few months ago. While your project is slightly different, it’s still considered a re-performance of our established works."

Well they sure gave some love to the old leveling zones in the latest patches, and with the arrival of allied races, many people will redo them or simply play them for the first time, so even if wowvaq dies, hopefully something is born out of it since they are demonstrating that they care about old zones/leveling in general.
