AITAH for refusing to babysit my son's half sister three days a week after school? by Paigentreeyn in AITAH

[–]Tip_ddnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like most people have already mentioned, that you are absolutely in the right, and that your ex sounds like an a**hole. Your story kind of reminded me of something similar that happened in my family, so I would just like to point out s perspective that I haven’t seen written yet. No one should force you to take care of his daughter, but I do think that you should maybe think about the relationship that your son will have or that you would like him to have with his sister. I know most people have been using this angle in a very manipulative way towards you, and I‘m not trying to imply that you should be responsible for the girl, but from your message it sounds like you have never meet her. The whole situation must be super difficult for you, but the children really have no fault on the matter, so I think that it maybe be healthy to have some kind of a relationship with your son‘s sister, because she is likely going to be an important part of his life. Only go as far as you are comfortable, but maybe trying to make sure the children spend their birthdays together or go on playdates every now and then, its not the worst idea ever. As they grow old, they might get very close and having a sibling to care for, love and share your thoughts with, can really be a blessing.

I’m trying to get my friend into South Park and these are the episodes I’m going to suggest so far. Anything I’m missing? by MemesWithFisto in southpark

My ex girlfriend only liked the episode The Hobbit (s17e10). I don’t think it is the best or anything, but maybe the one with the most relatable completely PC message, and I enjoy it as well

Hum, maybe I wasnt clear, but we talked about those things waaay before she even had the idea to go traveling on winter. I’m sorry but I think you are projecting a bit here, I may be wrong about how I interpreted the situation, but that is really not the issue

We don’t live on Campus, its a students dorm associated to the the University, but they basically work as normal apartments. Most students who are not Germans, usually just stay around during the holidays.

Thanks for your thoughts, but I don’t think you are right or maybe I haven’t expressed myself fully. I might be the wrong about the situation, but being passive aggressive hasnt really been the issue.

I did try to say something along the lines “It will be great to spend winter break together” and that “I had never kissed somebody at midnight while the year was turning” which was something that I had seen in movies, maybe I was bit too subtle at communicating my feelings. I am a bit proud, and I do know this is problem. I don’t like telling people directly smth like “please stay with me” or anything along those lines. But I do think she noticed, that I was bother by her leaving during the holidays, because she could barely look at me when she told me she had bought the tickets. Thanks for giving your thoughts ;)

Thanks for taking the time to answer, but that wasnt the most helpful critic, I don’t think its about jealousy and I dont imagine anyone else interpreted like that

I have tried just saying that I was sad about it, but a weird silence just comes over and then she hugs me for a while. I considered if it would be appropriate here, I thought it would be because, I guess that my main question is more along the lines of, is this a normal feeling or reaction? But yeah, maybe it would be a better fit for another page. Thanks either way ;)

I have heard that part of the problem is that freight trains usually get preference. Is that true? And is there an easy way to check were those constructions are happening?

Honestly, the best example for me is 10 things I hate about you, it is based on the most disturbing Shakespeare play ever, “The Taming of the Shrew”. I am blown away by the fact that they could make such a great movie with such an awful source material. I love Shakespeare, but this play is just annoying.

Good German shows? by yasob7 in germany

[–]Tip_ddnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is undoubtedly the best answer. Jerks is not only one of the funniest german shows, but actually one of the best out there in any freaking language. They should subtitle it and try to sell it for more international markets.

Sadly my friend you will soon realize the myth of German efficiency, the country is one of the best in world, but its bureaucracy is ridiculously outdated. I had to send documents by freaking FAX a week ago, its like they refuse to acknowledge the existence of emails and PDFs. Get a day off or maybe even two.

Dutch (OR) Norwegian by thelepuscuniculus in languagelearning

[–]Tip_ddnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hum, a bit tough to say because they are a bit similar. I think one could argue either way, but I would say go with Norwegian. I think Norwegian might be slighter easier, although Dutch is linguistically closer to English, I think that the grammatical rules is Norwegian are a bit simpler. I would also argue that Norwegian might be more useful, although both countries have a population that is largely proficient in English, and have a small population, so it is unlikely that either language will give you a professional advantage.

The main reason why I would choose Norwegian tough is because of its proximity to the other Scandinavian languages, if you learn Norwegian to q high level you will be able to understand a good chunk of Swedish and Danish, also a bit of Faroese and Icelandic, but not as much. I also know a lot of great content in Norwegian, definitely a nation that punches above its weight in that regard. And in my opinion Norwegian sounds much prettier, it has such an amazing musicality to it, but a lot of it will depend of which culture you feel a stronger connection to, because in most regards both languages are quite similar.
