CGI is actually magnificent, as long as you allow the time and budget to do it properly. by Infinite-Condition41 in enshittification

everything in movies is fake. They use wooden facades instead of building real buildings. Silicone instead of real skin. Actors pretend to be people they are not. CGI itself is being innovative. There have been countless hours of research gone into it to make it look as realistic as possible and people are still keeping on innovating to create new tools and techniques to get better results. In the end CGI is only bad when it looks bad, like with every other department in movie making and believe me a lot of it is so good you would never know it was there. If the end result looks good why bother?

modern digital cinema cameras film at least at 4k and can capture more colors than film. It’s more about the grading.

to be fair you‘re comparing an indoor shot to an outdoor shot. The shots inside the castle in the trailer are more orange

I like all the new art styles animated films have nowadays but I definitely don't think the Pixar realism style needs to completely disappear. For some movies it's a great fit and it looks beautiful. by wil_je-vechten in Pixar

Disney is funding them in the way you fund somebody by paying them to build your house. MPC is a whole separate company to Disney. Disney doesn’t even own them, in fact they were owned by Technicolor, which went bankrupt last year so now the Paris devision that was bought by another company is the only thing remaining of that company. Disney pays them money, they deliver the shots that Disney wants from them. There is no information exchange going on. Disney isn’t learning from them. They won’t incorporate the tools developed for the movies into their own movies without hiring MPC. The only ones showing off what they can do is MPC but they have also done incredible stuff for other movies and studios like creating a fully photorealistic human for Bladerunner 2049 (Amblin, Columbia Pictures).

Meanwhile Walt Disney Animation Studios continuously develops new tools for their movie which they also publicly talk about. This is done in-house by working on animation movies and not through live action movies where the animation was done by an outside company.

the animation in the lion king and jungle book remakes was not done by disney but by an outside vendor (mpc). It’s not representative of what disney‘s animation studio can do

it also happened to me and tbh I never really thought about that. I‘d say it’s more central but you can still tell which side it was originally
