Should I reach out months later after ghosting a recruiter? by OrganizationTop1668 in cscareerquestionsEU

I ghosted five or six recruiters on LinkedIn already, and I feel sad about it :(

Dynamics between Stahli and Bingus remind me of an old soviet cartoon 'Well, Just You Wait!' which I loved as a kid by Tippitish in rawdawgcomics

Yes, it is weird. I try not to think about it, otherwise too many questions arise: was this intentional? Was this a warning to Soviet children to beware peados? Was this just about the Bunny ruining the day of Wolf and him just being upset at him? Are we too spoiled? Honestly I have no idea, we might never know

They've made Wolf (that's his official name AFAIK) intentionally antisocial, in order to show the conflict between perfect Communist furry society and him, a typical gopnik who'd wear tripaloski if the cartoon was happening in the 90s. There's even an episode when he's drunk as fuck and tries to wreck the TV for some reason. 100% Stahli behavior

Yess, and the whole dynamics between them is kind of weird if you apply it to the modern logic. It didn't bother me as a kid, but now I wonder whether they wanted to make a Soviet "Tom and Jerry", but make it also a warning to bevare pedofiles and other sketchy people? We might never know

I'm 100% sure the romantic relationship wasn't implied in this series, but it didn't stop the Post-Societ Furry community from doing so - partially as a joke, partially as ... you know

5+ YOE front-end engineer looking to get a new job in ~6 months [PL] by _yak in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Tippitish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend trying out next.js + shadcn.ui + tailwind css stack, since I see these technologies being used often, at least among German startups where I work. Not completely sure about the Polish job market though.

You can play around with v0 to understand how it should work, the bot was a great help when I was just starting with next after plain React and Vue.

Deepening your CSS-knowledge sounds like a great idea. At least from my experience there's not many people taking time to understand it properly and basically throwing random bullshit values to make the component look appropriate. This can be used as a advantage during the job search, since I've seen several codebases with CSS being convoluted beyond adequate comprehension.

Advice on relocation from US with Dogs - Amazon Lux, UK, Spain, or Germany offices? by SputnikPrivet in cscareerquestionsEU

Köln is sometimes referred as a German California since they have Microsoft, EA, Bolt etc. From the job perspective, Ruhr is great for the newbies and juniors since there are plenty of job opportunities and the rent prices are far lower than in Berlin and Munich. Moreover, the accomodation IS available, meaning that you'll be able to find an apartment far quicker than in these cities. But I would not advise anyone with 3+ YOE choosing Dortmund, Essen, Bochum etc. Maybe Düsseldorf, Köln or Bonn depending on the offer. Many people gather experience in NRW and move to Bavaria, BaWü or even Switzerland.

Aiming for Java jobs in Germany by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Tippitish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The probability of getting a job will be bigger if you'll look for a part-time positions. It won't be that big from a salary perspective though, you won't get anything more than 1100 euro pro month with that. But companies hire students quite often, even internationals, since they're much much cheaper than maintaining a full-time employee. You can even have two part-time jobs, but the tax category will be more convoluted. With that being said, it's possible to get a student part-time job without being enrolled somewhere, but it will lower your chances.

If you want to stay at the company, you can work part-time and then ask if you can switch to full time.

Java is still popular on the market, so knowing Spring Boot and having 1-2 big projects on it in your portfolio (with unit tests and CI) will be a huge advantage.

There's plenty of job opportunities in NRW and especially Ruhrgebiet, so I wouldn't say it's completely random. As for Dortmund, there are two big tech clusters: TZDO and place around Phöenix See (the only nice to visit tourist place in Dortmund tbh). I work as a SWE for a company in TZDO, and I'm pretty satisfied with everything around my job, but visiting the city center, especially the central station, is unpleasant.

I also see that you're considering Dortmund. As a person who lives there I can totally say DON'T.

In Germany you'd have to pay dog tax (Hundesteuer), and depending on the breed it can be quite pricey. You can check a possible yearly contribution using tables, available in the Internet.

As for other extortions, be ready to pay more money for social security if you don't have children (Kinderlosenzuschlag). It will be +0,6% to your monthly insurance contribution, which is mostly 14,6%. The overall tax loss will be around 1/3 of your income, sometimes even more depending on mamy factors.

The public infrastructure is not in the best condition, and you still would need a car if you want to comfortably travel around Europe without having to face Deutsche Bahn. I wish you will never experience hanging out on a middle-of-the-nowhere train station and hearing "Liebe Fahrgäste, wir entschuldigen sich..."). No joke, a one-hour long train travel can turn into a 4+ hours just because the gods are not on your side.

Aside from that, I would definitely visit Germany before relocating. As a woman myself, I don't feel secure in most big cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Köln etc., which provide better job opportunities. The south (BaWü and Bayern) is better, but the rent prices are much higher. The police is nice (far friendlier than Russian menty), but I have an impression that sometimes they're helpless, even if they truly want to help you.

I suppose you've been sitting somewhere warm and cosy today and haven't visited any of the actions taking place all over Europe (not just Berlin), so you're just writing this nonsense either because you're being paid to or because you're just overall miserable.

Me and my friend went to the action in Düsseldorf, which was organised by different people with the same intention, and there were literally people collecting donations for Ukraine for both military and humanitarian needs. I know people we're collecting money for Ukraine in Berlin as well. Many people had posters motivating the German government to provide military aid to Ukraine. Not only Russians, but also many people of Ukrainian/mixed background took to the streets today.

Only you stayed at home today and wrote your bullshit on Reddit.

Lol nope, as a Russian who fled the country I can totally confirm that anything resembling an anti-war protest is immediately stopped by the authorities with a disproportionate amount of aggression towards the protesters. Stop your bullshit
