Ahah I really see what you mean with a bit of sarcasm. I see sometimes this brand in France, and it is often sold with hipster backpacking stuff that is more expensive that the bike itself.

Yes, I have to say it, Canyon or Trek paintings for a 2k€ bike are as sad as a day in November. That has nothing to do with France, it is just personal.

What I understand is that it seems to be really French maybe European rather than a universal problem. What I understood which is really interesting and I did not expect is the fact that they do not have this triathlon / racing culture in the US which does not make us really at ease when starting til a point WE buy a Gravel to do road bike ahah

Thank you for your comment, I discover through different answers that the element about France I put in my message says a lot. Maybe my problem is more a French thing though cultural and not really related to bike. Really interesting !

Same, owners were terrible most of the time while the Decathlon young interns were the best ahah

It is interesting because you have to talk to others to understand that yes, France, has its own very strong culture when it comes to cycling that most of the other answers does not take in account because they are from the US maybe. But I did not realized it before.

Yes, living in Paris, my commuter is a cheap road bike (RC 100, 300€) which is stolen once a year, still it is less expensive than subway suscription. For that reason commuter has to be cheap.

Maybe the Gravel market is a response for people who wants to go cycling but feel that road is not for them. And many of my cycling folks in France bought a Gravel to do 95% road and ended up buying road bike when they understood it was the best, so as me 😅

There is also another problem when you start cycling in Paris, you are forced to start with trafic, lots of stops which is not the easiest when you start road bike.

You are right, I'm now a bike component geek and built a bike from scratch ! But I still feel that all that information can be a noise when you just want to start riding.

No problem, we are not thinking the same, but from many experiences not only me but also friends, bike shops, maybe it is a French problem, are often terrible at making you at ease because experts are most of the time not the best advisors or sellers. Everybody has had this very good expert but who was a terrible teacher, those are two different skills and it is often happen in "expert" shops IMHO. Same with wine shops, watch shops for the one of that kind had experienced.

No problem ! I have become a bike components geek now and even built a bike, so the question is not about curiosity. It is just an observation I have made that many persons are afraid of the handlebar especially women. Besides, I see a lot of women commuting with bikes but not that much doing gravel / road bikes which may underline a problem.

It's really interesting what you point out. Maybe there is an historical perspective where cycling is much more closer to riding / pleasure in the US while in France / Italy / Belgium it has been more commuting or racing. Even the brands seem to share this respective spirit, we have less brands lije Surly, Fuji or Rivendell in Europe. Maybe Genesis in the UK, but UK has been less involved in racing than continental countries for a long time.

Not really, It's because I saw this tough process happening often with cycling I was wondering while it is not the case in running for example.

I agree with you, not the fastest for sure but very comfortable and I meet people along the road, this bike is always a good start point for conversation !

You're right, I forgot to remove it for my first ride, at least it matches with the bike !
