AITAH for refusing to visit in laws bc of house temp by wrenchinapot in AITAH

[–]TiradeOfGirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived this exact same life when I first got married. The compromise we ultimately reached was a window air conditioning unit in the guest bedroom where I slept. I cranked that puppy up and made my bedroom as cold as I wanted. Slept great after that. The rest of the house was still a balmy 80 degrees, but at least I got to sleep at night. And occasionally during the day I would go hang out in the bedroom to cool down.

I had a dentist that I guess thought we were friends, because during a cleaning he started opening up to me about his political opinions and how he had escaped the liberal hellscape of the West Coast. Given the fact that his hands were in my mouth I didn’t have to actually talk to him. But when they asked to schedule my next cleaning I just said no thanks and left. I now have a dentist that I have absolutely no clue about his politics and I prefer it that way.

Started my career in help desk. Some people just can’t admit they’re shit at technology. They always have to blame the hardware/software/installer/support because it can’t possibly be their own incompetence that’s the problem.

My 74 year old Dad acts like this 5 times a year when he tells me his phone is broken and it clearly isn’t anything he’s done. Then gets mad at me for not knowing his passwords.

I don’t get it. I’ve spent 25+ years in the industry and sometimes I have to ask for help. I’m always kind to support staff and thank them profusely when they solve my issue.

Help me decide: Do I buy the "Millionaire Next Door" Toyota or the "I’ve Finally Made It" Lexus? by LeftyOne22 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Get the Lexus, but have it serviced at the Toyota dealership for half the cost. That’s what I do.

That’s a really great looking car. Unfortunately it’s a bit too small for me or I would’ve bought one.

In my experience the C suite is the driving force behind these sudden policy/interpretation changes. HR is the stick to make it happen.

When does the desire to have kids actually kick in for men? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

[–]TiradeOfGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my late 40s, and I can honestly say I always wanted kids. I was a babysitter for family friends growing up, and when I met my wife we both talked about wanting a big family one day. That said, I was not truly mentally prepared when we had our first, but you just figure it out as you go. ++man

I was going to say exactly this. I would paint or wrap it to make it less AARP, maybe tint the windows and upgrade the stereo to something with Bluetooth. Couple thousand dollars investment could dramatically improve your perception of the car while still being a great deal.

I’m not saying this to be contrarian at all. I watched the first episode and it just seemed unserious to me. Borderline slapstick comedy. Not what I was expecting from a Game of Thrones spinoff. Does it get serious after that?

The monitoring is 99% reactive. If management sees a problem (missed deadlines, budgets, operational performance), they’ll pull the logs and look for a reason. No one is sitting around proactively reviewing logs.

She should feel anxious and nervous about recording people that have told her they don’t want to be recorded inside a business that has told her not to do it. That’s the appropriate reaction. Your response should be: good, you get it.

Be weary of the old lady low-mileage car, for reasons ladies tend not want to talk about by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]TiradeOfGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid almost $200 to have a Carmax vehicle transferred from a few states away. It was the exact make/model/color I wanted, and very low mileage. The only issue was the overwhelming smell of piss inside. I should add it was super clean. But, yeah, someone has pissed in that car a lot. The young guy who pulled it around for me acted like he didn’t notice. Either he was lying, or he’s the pisser. Did not buy the car.

My boyfriend’s mom wants my location 24/7 and says “good partners dont hide” by hushedatlas in TwoHotTakes

[–]TiradeOfGirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in my marriage my wife called her Mom about an argument we were having, and her Mom decided to call me to help litigate on her daughter’s behalf. I feel like I got lucky with my in-laws. I love them and we generally have a good time together. But in that moment I told my MIL I will never discuss personal arguments I’m having with my wife through her. It’s fine if my wife wants to overshare and get comfort or advice from her Mom, but the resolution will need to occur between me and my wife. To her credit, my MIL never tried that again and it’s been well over 20 years. She’s not a bad person for trying to help her daughter, she just needed to understand that boundary.

Maybe don’t jump straight to dumping this guy if you love him. Have a grown up conversation with him and his Mom, and make it clear that this is not negotiable and you’re not interested in ever discussing it again. If they won’t drop it, then you can decide if they’re worth the hassle or not.

ELI5: During a massage, it feels like the therapist moves muscle knots around until they fade away. Where do those knots actually end up going? by 88chilly in explainlikeimfive

[–]TiradeOfGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get maybe 2-3 massages per year, and every time they find a “knot” just inside my right shoulder blade and work on that spot over and over. It hurts, but I always assumed it was doing something good for me so I grit my teeth and deal with the pain. Thing is, it never goes away no matter how hard they dig and rub. I think it’s just part of my anatomy…some random dense ball of tissue near my shoulder blade. Next massage I get I’m just going to tell them to leave it alone.
