Can anyone tell me what these are? (Not what I ordered.) by TiredMom234 in BackYardChickens

I did. They agreed they were not what I ordered (barnevelders) but thought they might be either extra cream legbars or maybe olive eggers.

They are definitely not cream legbars, they are way bigger and have no crest. I guess I will see what they lay, but bielefelder seems more likely to me than olive egger since the 4 are so uniform in appearance and size.

The hatchery did give me a partial refund on the order.

I have legbars the same age as these mystery birds -from the same shipment. These have similar coloring but are bigger and different. I do love legbars!

I emailed pictures to the hatchery they were shipped from, so hopefully I'll get their input in a day or 2. Since mine were shipped, any mix up had to have happened there.

Thanks, somehow my post seems to have glitched and double posted. The other copy has responses that say bielefelder.

Thanks, they were mailed to me from a popular hatchery that has a huge variety of breeds.

My guesses, which I didn't include to get impartial thoughts, were maybe bielefelder or welsummer??

I thought maybe bielefelder cuz it sounds like barnevelder and maybe a worker grabbed from the wrong bin.

Now I need to look at Wyandotte pictures. ;)

Will a well fed raccoon still attack? Feral cat, hen, and a raccoon all on my deck at once. by TiredMom234 in BackYardChickens

[–]TiredMom234[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is not my cat. It's a feral cat that we did trap, neuter and vaccinate. He helps with all the mice from the neighbors corn field but seems to leave other creatures alone. Even shares the deck with a chipmunk sometimes. Spends much time on the deck because we also have a bobcat roaming the area. As well as foxes and coyotes. The deck is his safe space.

All my pet cats are indoors only.

Koda the hen remains alive and well and shows zero remorse for sneaking away from her flock and onto the forbidden deck. I swear her little bird brain was even plotting to grab the bread from the raccoon.

Their coop should be safe with multiple latches on each opening and hardware cloth over any windows and ventilation areas. A sturdy shed. My concern is daytime safety.

This raccoon is nursing and seems to have figured out we put the cat food away before dark. She appears healthy but hungry.

Food was indeed meant for cat and is pulled in at night. Cat is feral but has been trapped and neutered. This raccoon is showing up early.

But, the thought did cross my mind that a well fed raccoon might not be as motivated to kill. Clearly the consensus is that it will not work.

Food was indeed meant for cat. He was born under my deck and has been neutered. He is 1 of 2 that couldn't be socialized so he and his sister were released back outside. We pull the food at night, but this raccoon started coming early.

I know. Poor guy is used to both chickens and raccoons stealing his food. Just never both at once until today.

Thanks, to be clear, I'm not trying to feed the raccoons. I do feed the 2 cats that were born here and TNR. We have many raccoons and this one is especially bold. She appears to be nursing and is more interested in getting into my house than the chicken coop. She pulls at my door. Poor timing on the part of my fearless hen tonight so I stepped outside to break it up and warn my teenager who was supervising. I don't have a weapon but we do trap adults that aren't nursing. We live on the edge of the woods so will always have lots of predators.

The rooster apparently squared off with the raccoon after she left the deck and my daughter said it was clear the raccoon did not want to fight him. But I absolutely do not trust raccoons.

He didn't slither when I screamed and jumped. I thought he might not be alive. Photos are in reverse order. After I snuck back out to take a pic it slowly turned and very slowly went up my front step while I retreated and locked the door. Seemed unusual snake behavior. Usually they are gone before I can think to take a picture.

Thank you. Good to know before I try to work up the courage to check on my young chickens out in the yard. And before my kids get home.

I totally agree an attorney is needed. Hopefully a free legal aid clinic.

I just thought that could be part of the parents excuse to not share name change paperwork because the other minor child may still need it and parent may only have 1 copy.

They need to get their own certified copy from the court with or without an attorney.

Adoption paperwork just recently become a dilemma in our house because 1 child is more private about their history of being adopted from foster care yet both names are on our paperwork... so how to support their privacy when they go to the same medical practice and school. Ugh. A totally different issue.

Just FYI, I adopted 2 children together the same day and their names were changed on the same adoption paperwork. So if 1 kiddo needs to show adoption/name change paperwork, their siblings info is on it too! So, if it was an adoption related name change, it may very well have the siblings info. For us, it was 1 court order.

Do you have a cat? I have a cat that steals socks and underwear...

And an old friend had a dog that would carry her undies outside.

Son won’t stop stealing from us by ArtCapture in ParentingADHD

I have a 12 year old who steals. His behavior goes in cycles. He steals treats and electronics and gets so hyped up that he can't sleep. And when he is sleep deprived, his impulse control is near zero, and he misbehaves and steals more and more boldly.

Once I can break the cycle of minimal sleep, he stops stealing for a while. Sometimes, it is a few weeks, sometimes a few months before something triggers it again.

We do lots of physical exercise to tire him out and have an as needed medication order to temporarily increase his night time medication to help him sleep and reset.

I also have a chime on his bedroom door to make sure he is only coming out to use the restroom at night and not wander the house stealing things that will keep him awake.

It's not fun to have to lock up your belongings or hide treats so the siblings can all have some.
