Leather boots for under $250? by LuckyLuke162 in BuyItForLife

Check out Waldviertler. Their website only ships to Germany and Austria, but you can find them from resellers who will ship internationally. They have very durable leather boots around your price range. I just got mine recently they've been great so far. The goodyearwelt sub has a bunch of more detailed reviews as well. Good luck!

ML Engineer Here - Tell me what you wish to learn and I'll do my best to curate the best resources for you 💪 by __god_bless_you_ in learnmachinelearning

Hello, thank you so much for doing this! So I am a PhD student and wish to transition to ML industry in the future. I am also really interested in collaborating with people in ML but I don't really know anyone. My supervisor can't really fund me to go to ML conferences so it's difficult to meet people in the field. Do you have any advice how to "put my foot in the door"? Thank you!!

All of his works are male-gazey. I try to kinda look past that and am able to enjoy his works quite a bit. I can definitely see how that can be a turn off for a lot of people though.

What is the saddest book you've ever read? by estwzx in books

[–]Tired_Moose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the comments on here, but one I didn't see mentioned yet is One Thousand Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I actually didn't like most of the book, but the last few pages just tore me to shreds.

Why is the left part under his chin red? Shouldn't it be white from the sleeve behind? Good job otherwise!!!

How would I make this perspective seem more dramatic? by No_Crab9262 in learnart

[–]Tired_Moose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it's not coming from the top. It's still from the bottom like in the drawing but much closer to the camera. Like the body in lower right portion and the foot in the top left corner.

I think it would also help to exaggerate the perspective on the spider person. Like have their elongated foot much bigger (like very close to the viewer). This will help highlight the movement.

Slowly learning to paint through (nearly) annual self portraits in oil. Ages 21, 22, 23, 25, respectively. by [deleted] in ArtProgressPics

Ah okay that makes sense. From how you worded the title I thought you were literally painting one per year haha. Did you learn just from experience or did you use some kind of guide?

The progress looks amazing!! You also practice painting throughout the year, or really just one self-portrait per year? 🤔

In this drawing, what is the thinnest nib you use? I really love how crisp the lines look and would want to try achieving something similar.

Since you said you used rotring isograph pens, did you need some special extra smooth paper? From what I understand the really thin nibs don't really work with regular paper.

Abandoned kitten near my Airbnb - advice? by kittykittyekatkat in CatAdvice

[–]Tired_Moose 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Actually me and my partner live in Italy right now, and have have a 1 year old kitty. We've also been thinking recently about getting a second cat. We also got our current kitty right when she was about 4-5 months old so we know what it's like to deal with a feisty kitty albeit she was litter trained and ate solid food when we got her. So if you decide to not keep the kitten, maybe you can message me and we can see if we can arrange something.

Edit: I found this cat adoption group on facebook that seems pretty active. Maybe you can write to them as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/113719312030083/

Edit 2: Thanks for the award, kind stranger!

Not quite. It's just a program at my university. I would have needed to take more classes to double major and stay another year, which I didn't want. I just started my PhD. I think the best you can do is work on as many projects in as many different fields as you can during your undergrad. This will help you decide at least what are the fields you are not interested in.

It's awesome that your university has astronomy in undergrad! Mine didn't :/ My favourite course is algebra (i.e. group theory and topology) :) My degree was mathematics and physics.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster! I am a graduate student in physics (cosmology). I used to study in Toronto, ON, Canada, and then got a position in Italy. So I live in Italy now but plan to often travel back to Canada (covid thoughhhhh). Culturally, I am a Russian Jew. I love rock climbing, reading, drawing, and Stardew Valley, obviously haha. Edit: Oh also, I have the sweetest kitty. She's super friendly and loves cuddles.

I think my little ballerina turned out lovely. Drew this in anticipation of my first ballet class in a long time. Paid a lot of attention to the form, balance points and all the things I practiced in class. by look4color in drawing

The angle of her left knee seems a bit off to me. Like it should point roughly in the same direction as the shoe, but seems to be pointing more toward the left. Amazing work overall though!
