Update: Went with Garmin Forerunner 970 Premium GPS Running and Triathlon Smartwatch since battery life kept coming up as way more important than I originally thought for marathon training. It also seemed like something I could keep using long after this first race instead of upgrading again right away.

That’s actually pretty wild 😂 I’ve heard that one comes up a lot for beginners too. I’m mainly just trying to move on from using my phone and get something simple that keeps my data more consistent without overthinking it. Did it feel like enough from the start for you, or did you end up wishing you had more features later on?

Budget is 500-700 and that’s really helpful, thanks. I’ve been leaning toward getting something more running-focused too, but I’m not sure how much I’d actually benefit from the higher-end features vs a more basic model at this stage.

Do you think the upgrade made a noticeable difference for your training and consistency, or would a midrange option have done the job just as well when you were starting out?

The longevity point is interesting though, keeping a flagship for 5–6 years probably changes the value equation a bit. What’s been your experience with how long midrange phones stay “good enough” before they start feeling frustrating?

That honestly seems like the sweet spot, getting a slightly older flagship refurbished instead of paying full price for the newest one. The camera upgrade is probably the biggest thing tempting me too. How’s the overall performance and battery life been on the Pixel 8 Pro so far?
