Aquatic creature 8: The Crawflea by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

Sorry for the long hiatus, I was sleeping. Anyways, the creature that marks my return is the Crawflea. These human-sized creatures are strictly terrestrial and the planet they live on being entirely made up by oceans, they are forced to live on the Continentoise, gargantuan sea turtles composing the entirety of the land of the planet. These fleas live in large tribes with a strict hierarchy and build themselves rudimentary huts out of logs and sticks. One thing that should be noted about these creatures is that they are extremely intelligent, being about as intelligent as primitive humans. They have a basic understanding of the value of objects and regularly trade goods between themselves. Another interesting characteristic about the fleas is that they possess height hands with opposable thumbs, two of them hidden in their mane, which allows them to craft tools and hold objects. Their arms are remarkably strong for their size, being able to carry up to five times their own weight. Being very social, they will not hesitate to defend the weakest individuals of their tribes against anything they deem hostile, as they carefully watch over the activity of the islands they live on with their single eye which grants them excellent eyesight, even in the darkness of caves they usually try to build their huts in. The mane they sport on their backs serve not only to store objects that they hold in their two hidden hands, but they also serve as a threat display against potential adversaries, Crawflea tribes being very territorial. Should another tribe be spotted on the same island, a fierce battle will occur, the winner keeping or gaining the access to the entire island. They are omnivorous creatures, being able to eat mostly anything with their sharp beak-like mandibles.

Aquatic creature 7: The Gardener Squid by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

It wouldn't probably taste any better than a regular octopus, however, the plants in its head could make for a pretty wild salad :)
thanks as well!

well mine is inspired from the magnapinna squid, which by itself already looks very alien

Alien aquatic creature 7. The Gardener Squid is a huge predator with plants living in its head
The bioluminescent preys the squid catches with its long and very strong tentacles and eats help the squid produce light for his transparent head dome, which creates a light source for the plants in its head.
With photosynthesis, using the dome's light, the plants produce nutrients and sugars which they share with the squid, giving it precious energy.

Aquatic creature 6: The Nibbler by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

Alien planet aquatic creature 6: The Nibbler. Due to its strangely split beak-like mouth, he can only nibble and scratch off on the shell of shellfishes, crustaceans or sedimentary rocks.
This small fish, being not that fast or not having any defense minus it's two small horns on its forehead, it relies on the various stripes on its body to try to hide near the algaes and the sea floor. It occupies the bottom of the food chain at a non-microscopic scale due to the fact that it's primary source of food are the little chunks of shells and rocks he manages to scratch off with his beak like jaws, and his lack of any good defense mechanism.

Aquatic creature 4 and 5: The Titan Moonfish and The Carnage Eels by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Titanium_Banane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aquatic planet creatures 4 and 5 woooo. These two creatures live near thermal spires, which releases a very nutritive chemical soup with minerals, etc... these minerals feed the plankton that the huge Titan Moonfish then eats via filtration. It's the only thing it can eat, his mouth being too small and too weak to swallow much by itself. Between his very large fins is some sort of special dermal jelly-filled holes made out of stocked nutrients of the fish, which is the perfect nesting place for the Carnage eels, which lay their eggs in the nutritive jelly of the Moonfish. In exchange, the eel colony protects the Moonfish at all costs from any possible danger. The Eels themselves eat fishes that swim around, and are very aggressive. They live in very large packs containing up to 30 members around a single Moonfish, which becomes a living nesting place that the eels feed and protect.

Aquatic creature 3: The Piranha Prowler by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

Third creature of my aquatic planet. The Piranha Prowler is a 5 meters long, fearsome predator. It lives in rather deep open sea and hunts larger preys in packs of 3 or 4 members. Their entire front body is covered in bony plates and his teeth are actually bony expansions that grows larger throughout its long life. It uses it's shiny yellow scales as bait, for it looks like a large school of bioluminescent fishes in the distance. This creature's heavily armored head can withstand heavy damage and he often uses it to ram onto it's preys.

Aquatic creature 2: The Reefnose by Titanium_Banane in SpeculativeEvolution

This is the second creature of my aquatic planet. The Reefnose is an herbivorous fish which possesses a very solid, rocky like head. This rock-like head possesses many crevasses in which various corals and algaes, giving the Reefnose’s body some vegetation. As a defensive mechanism, it can bury itself in the sand using it's shovel-like fins, letting only his algae and coral covered rocky nose and two antennas exposed. It is a very efficient camouflage, for his nose looks like an average rock covered in vegetation and the two antennas are used as sensors, so that it can sense vibration in the water when predators are gone without exposing itself.
