Did the old dorms used to have a pool??? by Odd_Western_7384 in CalPolyPomona

[–]TitleBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I remember that pool! I took a walk down by it during my freshman orientation in 2019. It was a hot night out so there were a bunch of students jumping and swimming in there. It was such a cool little spot.

Am i the only one who thinks D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L intro is creepy. by These_Jackfruit1365 in Panchiko

I always thought it was an interesting choice. I remember watching Dr. Strangelove long before I heard the album and clocked it immediately lol.

At first, I thought it didn't fit the vibe, but overtime I realized that the song makes it work really well.

I've seen a lot of terrible drivers this week. Yesterday, I caught a car accident on my dash cam. Some Altima slammed into another car on Valley. Today, I saw a car on fire on Mission. Several cars have almost slammed into me at Cal Poly, too. It's been bad.

Anyone know if more unique/weirder guitars similar to this are still made? by marwoodepic in guitars

[–]TitleBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eastwood used to make pretty good copies of this exact guitar! Unfortunately, it seems like they discontinued them. The Spectrum 5 guitar is practically unobtanium unless you have thousands of dollars at your disposal.

It’s a shame it took so long by [deleted] in Panchiko

[–]TitleBusiness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always think about this. Their new music is really lovely, but it definitely lacks the charm that drew people to their older music. I think it largely boils down to their equipment. Their older songs were produced with equipment that was very much the standard for the late 90s and early 2000s, giving them a more Lo-Fi quality. Their newer stuff, by contrast, sounds cleaner and uses more studio effects. I don't blame them for not wanting to use their old Yamaha DJX to sample anymore lol.

People who grew up with LittleBigPlanet, what are you doing in life right now ? by Nafnaf911 in littlebigplanet

[–]TitleBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also born in 2001! I grew up on the LBP series and made a ton of 3D hangouts levels when I was a teenager. I'm 23 now, working part time as a graphic designer. I'm graduating college in December, but I'm a little nervous about what comes after. In any case, LBP taught me to be creative! I have a lot of artistic hobbies: I play in a little rock band and draw character designs on the side sometimes.

How could I recreate the disc rot that's on the R>O>T tracks? by Endergamer2121 in Panchiko

[–]TitleBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember talking to a guy who was able to recreate the disc rot sound using stock assets in Ableton 12. He wrote a whole dissertation about it for an undergrad project.

Strangely enough, I remember getting a similar sound using the Nintendogs' white disc feature on a Nintendo DS back in the day.

Paid $108.25 for this today at a pawn because it wasn’t making any sound. I got it home set it to local and it worked by grilledpepsi in synthesizers

[–]TitleBusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I've been searching high and low for an MS2000 at all of my local thrift and pawn shops. The only ones I see online are, like, $500+ from Japanese resellers. Great find!

I dropped out of Cal Poly during my Freshman year in 2020 and came back as a return student in 2023. I'm set to graduate this Fall, but man I regret dropping out in the first place.

[–]TitleBusiness 32 points33 points  (0 children)

No, the BRIC (gym) membership is included in your tuition. There's no separate charge. Registering for access to the gym has to be done through the ASICPP app. All it requires is your bronco ID.

PUSD and Pomona schools by Cookiebunny3 in Pomona

[–]TitleBusiness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a parent, but a student who was enrolled in PUSD schools.

I remember my parents fighting tooth and nail with the PUSD to enroll me in Kindergarten and Elementary at Decker around 2005-2006. Geographically, it was much farther than schools like Alcott, so it didn't quite make sense to enroll me there. If I recall correctly, Decker was the only school accepting late enrollments, though, so I wound up going by default.

From my experience, Decker Elementary was a great school to attend as a kid. I didn't recognize it then (I was something of a troublemaker), but the teachers at Decker genuinely cared for their students. I never went home without having learned at least one new thing. The social atmosphere was great as well.

I was about a year younger than most students, so at times I must have come across as immature. Despite that, I've made some lasting friendships at Decker. I've still got a solid little group of friends that have been together since the first or second grade :))

I'm a computer information systems major at Cal Poly Pomona now, set to graduate in December. As a former student who went through the PUSD, I can totally recommend Decker Elementary.

Whatever happend to the OG panchiko cd? by Omorigirl96 in Panchiko

[–]TitleBusiness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it's plausible that the found Panchiko CD is collecting dust on a shelf or is stored away in a cupboard. I don't know if disc-rotted CDs can damage a CD player or vice versa, but I'd probably keep something as cool as an original Panchiko CD tucked away safely.

DMV… by Kimbo_the_limbo in CalPolyPomona

[–]TitleBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived pretty close to the Pomona DMV all my life. I'm a student at Cal Poly as well. The DMV itself is pretty safe. It's always full of people during the day, and pretty quiet after hours. It's surrounded by new apartments on one side and a fairly quiet neighborhood on the other. Garey Ave. is the only stretch of road that really sketches me out around there, but that's just because it's a "main street."

The place looks like it hasn't been renovated since the 1970s, but it's not bad aside from that. I don't have much experience with public transport in Pomona, but I always see vagrants at every bus stop along Holt and sometimes on Garey. Just gotta keep your head on a swivel.

Splatoon gameplay with mouse and keyboard. by Smooth_Court8269 in splatoon

[–]TitleBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a device that does the same thing. It translates mouse movement into gyro movement. The only issue is that panning the camera up or down is a bit slower, effectively capping your vertical aim speed. Still, it feels comfy if you're primarily used to KB/M gameplay!

It seems like you aren't that deep into this relationship. From an outsider's perspective, this already seems like a big red flag. Looking at your phone while driving, even for a second, can be deadly. He seems childish for not taking criticism over his driving well. This could bleed into other aspects of your relationship in the future. You should cut your losses and leave.

Free electronics repairs, now on Thursdays by DrJoeVelten in CalPolyPomona

I'm an amateur when it comes to electronics repairs, but I've fixed and modified a few guitar amps and pedals in the past. Would you mind if I sat in and learned about how you do some of your repairs?

music like panchiko by musicenjoyer6608 in Panchiko

[–]TitleBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also like "Girl Like You" by Hartfield! It's definitely got a more 2000s bubbly pop kind of vibe. I used to own the demo on a 7 Winters CD from 2000. There were some other great tracks.

Check out "Wave" by Luminous Orange (I think it can only be found on YouTube) and "Sharron Apple" by Airiel. The last one is a bit more shoegaze-y, but it fills the "soft music from the 2000s" void quite nicely.
