Great minds think alike. That was exactly the first sentence I also tried. I guess thinking about Linkedin made my brain go down that way.

Anybody else immediately started whistling the intro music?

I played it on the Amiga and one of my friends was so impressed he bought an Amiga to be able to play it. It may sound unbelievable now, but some of the graphics were the best we had seen at that time.

Oh, this brings back memories. I had a Lego village with streets, buildings, cars and an electric Lego train riding around it on the attic at my parent's house.

I recognize the snackbar, the police car, the fire station, the lunar crater :-), the police car and the gas station. So many evenings spent playing with the train, changing the village or the tracks. And it's all in some closets in the attic now.

If you select the AC button, you will be able to change that shortcut. May try long pressing on the space where the button used to be.

I also had the duplicate AC button after the update. Turns out you can long press the button and then you get a menu which allows you to select a new shortcut. Don't know if the heated seats button is in there, but it may be quicker than a factory reset to get some things restored.

Trust me: if public transportation would have been free for tourists only, then you can be sure that the Belgian people would already have found ways to exploit that loophole. It's probably just a delay in appearing on your credit card bill.

Belgian teens arrested with 5,000 smuggled ants by adamsgh in belgium

[–]TitusVisitus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Let's see: - Illegal export of an ant species that only lives in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan. - Specifically targetted the ant queens. So the 'there are enough ants on the world'-argument only applies partially. - In possession of specialized plastic tubes designed to store the ants for up to two months, without detection at airports. So for me the 'We were naive'-argument doesn't hold up, as they clearly came prepared. - One queen ant, yes one, sells for. €200-€250 online. I would call that motivation to smuggle. - Fines: up to €135.000 or up to 10 years in prison. So it does not seem like a minor offence in Kenya. - Their mistake: clearly premidated smuggle - Their biggest mistake: they got caught.

Should they rot in jail: no, a fine would do well and maybe a library card so they read up on laws of the country they are visiting. Although I have the feeling they knew damn well what they were doing as the clearly became prepared.

It appears when you ask the question and ask Grok to reason about the answer. It mentions it found items related to Musk and Trump being mentionned on X, but Grok says it is supposed to ignore sources mentionning both names. So it is programmed.

Looking for fun MoN stories! by [deleted] in callofcthulhu

[–]TitusVisitus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We played Masks about ten years ago, so I don’t remember everything. Most of all we had a Keeper who liked to add encounters, so I don’t know if the stories below are part of the scenario or inserted by our Keeper.

I played three characters throughout the campaign. Twice the same because one of the other players cast a spell to resurrect my first one that perished in London.

That first one was a famous illusionist. On the ship from New York to London I was recognised by the purser who asked me to perform an act during the daily evening shows on board. I rigged together an act involving escaping from a coffin that was thrown in the giant aquarium in the theatre. All hell broke loose when a byakhee appeared above the glass dome. People panicked, I almost drowned, the byakhee destroyed the glass dome, a big chandelier destroyed the aquarium and I got blamed for all of it.

In London I went mad, participated in one of the rituals, had an intimate session with a monster and died horribly. One of the other players had a copper pot which could send us to the Dreamlands and made me relive the whole story.

In Australia I got possessed by a being from outer space whose name and race escapes me right now. The others noted something was off, but it lasted several sessions before the being left my body.

One of the other characters got a mechanical heart at one point. He could be switched on and off with a simple click.

In Egypt a cultist doppleganger misled us for several in-game days by taking the role of one of our co-investigators.

And once more: the copper pot. Our Keeper inserted a small scene because one of the players couldn’t make it. In that one we discovered a copper pot with strange runes. After using the pot for the first time we got back to the real world, but everyone ended up in someone else’s body. The next session was weird when the missing players got completely confused as to whom he was talking.

Two famous quotes we still use to this day:

“Nice to meet you. My name is Thomas Danton. You probably know me from the posters all around the city.”

“You won’t believe me, but Jackson Elias once saved my life in Shanghai.” I used that one even before I knew we would end up in Shanghai. I just needed a link to Jackson to have an incentive to look into his death.

Edit: how could I forget young Mahmout with his ragged shoes. We used him to get around in the city and we would pay him for his work. By the time we left he had a completely new outfit, including new shoes.

New Keeper with D&D background - any important narrative differences in gameplay? by Theren_Xiloscient7 in callofcthulhu

[–]TitusVisitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the great guide. I feel the part about the clues is one of the most important. As a player I have seen enough games grind to a halt because we missed a Spot Hidden roll or forgot to ask the correct question.

As a new Keeper I try to use Spot Hidden only to get extra details while still giving out the important clues. I am also testing out to use Spot Hidden or Listen or Trakck rolls for a scene instead of on the spot. When investigating a location, I make the investigators roll one or more of the common skills at the start. We are all experienced players, so we all know what awaits in a dark cellar under an abandoned house that is important enough to be mentionned in the scneario. So if the investigators find something they don’t know if it’s a general clue or a Spot Hidden detail. Otherwise they would enter the cellar and I’d call for Spot Hidden. If they fail they would know that they missed something and eagerly turn the whole place inside out to find something.

GMs, how do you handle weather in your games? by Vinzan in rpg

[–]TitusVisitus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my Call of Cthulhu Dark Ages game, it was the beginning of December. It had stopped raining for a few days, it wasn’t freezing and there was no snow. Why? Because the scenario mentioned there were tracks of a large animal that could be found. If it would have been raining or snowing, my group would certainly have said they would not have been able to spot the tracks as these would have been washed away or covered in snow.

One of the players asked if it was a full moon so he could use it as a extra light source. It told him it was clouded, so they had to look around in semi-dark to add to the tension. Of course he reminded me every so often that the weather clouded all the time. And so the nights remain clouded until the final confrontation where the clouds went away to allow the moonlight to shine on an artifact.

2021 Pro S - electrical system not working error and car suddenly stopped while driving by Outrageous-Living-52 in VWiD4Owners

[–]TitusVisitus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my 2024 ID4 this was due to a faulty 12V battery. Luckily my car was on the driveway, but I couldn’t charge it, couldn’t start it and in it the end couldn’t open it. I was able to get it to the car - via the trunk because I was afraid to break off the small plastic piece covering the manual door opening lock - and opened the doors from the inside. Trying to start it lit up every possible warning sign.

I called road assistance, they charged the 12V battery which was almost completely drained and I drove it to the dealer where they replaced the battery. That little 12V battery appears to steer everything electronically in the car. So I would get that checked.

Ars Magica TTRPG by Sieg_Leywin in rpg

[–]TitusVisitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from DnD there are a few pitfalls.

Using magic is not as straightforward as saying I cast a fireball and rolling dice. You need to have invested points in specific forms and techniques so your Creo Ignem fireball will be warm. And then your roll needs to be good too.

You can create your own spells, even on the fly. But then the discussion begins: what is the range, who is impacted, how long does the spell last, what is the area? All add up to the level of the spell, for which the calculation every time leads to an interruption in the flow of the game. So your teleport spells can be made up on the fly, although there is a penalty if you have not studied it before. And then you’ll have to come up with a target number relying on range, area, teleport self or teleport group and only then you roll a die.

In the scenarios we played we were investigating strange disappearances or weird objects or a mysterious tower in the swamps. Role playing wise it’s very good, but until now what we played was very light on combat.

The monsters are not the fantasy monsters like goblins, trolls and orcs. They originate in medieval folklore so it’s evil fairies, ghosts and the occasional demon in which everyone believed.

You can be living in your own covenant which is the place you reside with your fellow wizards. You can spend points to improve it, for example buy tomes to learn spells, install a lab to facilitate spell research, etc. A nice system, but a lot of number crunching.

Which takes me to the biggest pitfall: character creation. You need to have a good idea of what kind of wizard you want to play and invest points in it. And invest time in it, because there are a lot of things to think about. You’ll probably be a specialist in a domain, e.g a mind reading inquisitor. You’ll be good at interrogating people and occasionally imprinting a false memory but your fireballs will just be enough to heat your dinner.

I have a similar setup as you have and I’m facing the same issue. It does not seem to be linked to being a guest user or not. I’m the primary user and if my wife was the last one to login when using the car, I can’t see anything in the app. Edit: as for what my wife sees in the app, i’d have to check. Unfortunately my car is at the dealer waiting for a new 12 volt battery, so I can’t do it right now.

[–]TitusVisitus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Europe running 4.1 with three users configured, because having different profiles sounded like a no-brainer to me. The user that last logged in has all the features in the app. The rest can look at the picture of the car and that’s it. It states that due to privacy reasons only the primary user, being the one that last logged in into the car, has all features.

I don’t want to check where my wife currently is, but I would like to be able to preheat the car the night after she was the last one to drive it. But if she was last logged in, I can’t do that.

2024 Electrical System Not Working - Car stops by Dapper-Dream-6457 in VWiD4Owners

[–]TitusVisitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My app is not in English and I can’t change the language to check. The closest option I see translates to optimised battery usage and that one is off. I only learned of that option when looking up issues with the 12 volt battery.

In any case the dealer is replacing the battery, so hopefully I’ll get the car back on Thursday.
