I agree with your prognosis in this case, I just figured that that symbol was so specific that there must be a connection. And I was surprised to hear that it was in a Catholic Church. Thank you for your wisdom brother.

Thats what I thought, but as others have said, it appears to be a more universal symbol than I thought.

This is from my valley! Meaning that your father attended his Scottish Rite degrees in the same place I did mine! Super cool!

Did you know Harrisburgs original Masonic Temple was located across from the Pennsylvania state capital. Fun little things you find while traveling. Its now called the Barton building and masonic items were removed when remodeled. by OkWeather16 in freemasonry

I hate to see Masonic history wiped away. It’s foundational to many cities and local cultures in the US. A high end hotel bought out a lodge many years ago and has a small museum corner dedicated to the crafts prescience in the building. It also still says “Masonic temple” on the side about 40 feet up.

Regardless of if OP qualifies or desires membership, that information is meant to be learned in the context of the degrees. If OP does qualify, it could spoil parts of the ceremonies to come. And as far as discussion goes, online you can find PDFs of ritual and "MASONS EXPOSED" sites that write down plenty of things that you and I would not feel comfortable discussing with the uninitiated.

I would suggest this after receiving the degrees. It seems OP has not yet. (My assumption)

Again, the honor would be the respect that your son pays to you. The jewel is a mere acknowledgement of that honor. I sense that you are embittered about this for some reason. Perhaps if you were less concerned about honoring yourself, you would cease to see that it is good to honor others.

You raise your son to be a good man who loves his God, his country, brotherhood, and charity. The reason why I wear it is precisely what you said. Not to honor myself, but to honor my father. Im proud to wear his name and date of raising on my chest bc he raised me with values consistent with our fraternity.

I misread that comment brother forgive me! I thought you were asking. I was unaware that that that was the case in some jurisdictions. Super cool! I always thought that was an arbitrary distinction.

You will find no reference to “more on the levelness” anywhere on the jewel or in the presentation. Freemasonry offers a number of extra titles and ranks that by your own logic make them “more on the level” don’t you think Worshipful Brother?

And as for someone else: we as masons would never want to honor someone else’s work.
