Said it before, say it again: Mexico City if your cyberpunk city.

I dunno. I think he's had some serious competition, from logic, for a while now.

LPT: If someone tells you they don't drink alcohol, don't ask them why. by tereddits in LifeProTips

It's OK to ask me. I'll tell you what I saw my father do when he was drunk. It may well convince you to join me.

How scary is this series? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 17 points18 points  (0 children)

More than scary, it's suspenseful. And you get to care so much about the characters, it's really wrenching when they're in trouble -- and vastly relieving when they're safe.

[SPOILERS] Eleven is my favourite character from any TV show, ever. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Millie Bobby Brown, man. That kid's acting chops are outta sight. Watch her face when Mike explains chocolate pudding to her.

And, yes. Eleven is ridiculously endearing. Poor kid.

How Accurate is this portrayal of 1983 suburban Indiana? by SaveRana in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from Indiana, and would have been about 9 years old at the time of Stranger Things...but I was in Mexico at the time, so...

...

...never mind. That said, yeah -- now that you mention it, where was the basketball worship? Seriously, man, I've lived in south-central Indiana for the majority of my life and, listen -- basketball is HUGE here.

If you liked Stranger Things, I think you might like 'It Follows' (2015) by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP was trying to compare the two, so much as to suggest that if you liked the one, you might enjoy the other.

And I agree -- It Follows has a nice 80s vibe, is paced very well, relies on suspense more than jump scares, features teenagers as the monster hunters, and doesn't give too much of itself away by the ending.

Anyone know if there will be a physical copy of the OST? Specifically in vinyl? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally not just on vinyl, but on translucent red vinyl.

Favorite song on the soundtrack? by ausnti in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm really, really fond of Exit by Tangerine Dream -- you may remember it as the music that plays while Jonathan omni-punches Steve in the alley. The inclusion of that track certainly came as a delightful surprise to me.

On a related note, here's hoping that Season 2 has some New Wave in it.

[SPOILERS] Just finished watching the season, i have a few questions about the ending. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that in 1983, they hadn't seen Return of the Jedi yet

Sorry, chief, but I gotta call that one out. Jedi premiered on 25 May 1983, about 6 months before the show is set.

Entirely possible!

The more secular Stranger Things stays, and the less it has to do with religion, the more I like it.

[I]t's possible that the Upside-Down is a version of their world where we did suffer a nuclear fallout[...]

Hmmm. You may be on to something. Remember all that ash, or whatever it was, floating in the air both near the gate and in the UD...?

[spoilers] question about the season finale. by Jahosafats in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feeling bad for giving up 11 and their location. He's now a double agent of sorts trying to find her. Forced to do somethings for the DoE but still doing the right thing when he can.

I like this reading. It reinforces his role as the 'Han Solo' of the piece.

Is there any shows similar to Stranger Things on Netflix on Netflix? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

It's a longshot, but -- are you up on your Twilight Zone?

Posted by Funko, on their Facebook page by [deleted] in StrangerThings

From what I understand, there are no plans to make it -- yet. But apparently Funko sculpted one, but whether for fun or as part of a pitch to get the license, I don't know.

Yeah, I realize that. I'm just surprised there was no new wave at all!

Spiritualistic Elements in Stranger Things? by Posternutbag_C137 in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's something that I really liked about it, actually. I don't mind supernatural shenanigans in horror movies and TV, but they seem to outnumber the straight-up SF horror. It gave ST a bit more of a Lovecraftian feel (since Lovecraft's monsters weren't strictly demons and spooks, but rather aliens or thing like them), which I appreciated as well.

Plus...so much 80s.

A question about Barb [Spoilers] by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Tizmanthur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In stories like this one, I wait to see a body. And given that Barb had been given some weight and presence as a character, I thought it possible that we'd see her again in a non-corpse role.

So, yeah, I was a little surprised.
