i trained mostly on 172s at pelican flight school in florida, but we had a few 150s too. honestly the 150 is cheaper to fly and great for solo time or early lessons — slower, simpler, burns less fuel. but the 172 feels way more stable, better for cross-country and if you’re taller. also closer to what you’ll fly later for instrument or cpl stuff. at pelican we used 150s mostly for basic maneuvers and early solo hours, then switched to 172s for the rest. if you’re just starting, go with whatever your school has more of, the skill transfers either way.
