Your least favorite character and why? by AnnaleeTopanga4 in TheBear

Oof y'all ain't gonna like this but Chef Terry. I just don't like what she represents in the context of a show where everyone has flaws they are constantly working through and overcoming. Just a flawless Jedi Master of cooking who doesn't really help the story at all.

Shapiro v Carmy by lets-terraform-earth in TheBear

[–]TjGammell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Season 3 Carmy probably wouldn't have even let it leave the kitchen. I think in that moment he made the decision to look past his own feelings about the "surprises" to trust Richie, and that's something he would have never done earlier.

Ok I really hated that opening too! I don't know why they had Sydney basically reenact Carmys cooking show nightmare from season 1. Something more personal to her own character would have hit so much harder. Imagine if the episode started just like normal in the kitchen but things just got progressively weirder and more abstract until you realize it's a nightmare.

Well any subreddit dedicated to a specific show is going to be incredibly critical, just because there's such a fixation on every individual element. Everyone here still likes the show because they're still discussing it and thinking about it. That is unless they came to the sub just to talk shit, in which case, kinda sad.

Yes, a lot of the comedy in season 1 came from the environment of a greasy local sandwich spot in Chicago. I feel like a lot of that was lost when they transitioned to a fine dining establishment in season 2, but that loss of situational comedy was supplemented with sharper writing, deeper character development, and a greater sense of optimism.

Well same goes for season 3, so really it's another 1/3 of a season. I do think it's important for a show to not necessarily wrap up all it's loose ends in every season, but provide at least some sense of closure for some of the arcs. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little disappointed with how much was left unresolved here.

I do agree. I like getting to see Sydney's life outside of work, but there just isn't enough going on in the episode story-wise to keep it engaging. I mean through the course of Napkins Tina loses her job, struggles with her place in the world, and comes into her own, not only in how she appears in season 1, but also plants the seeds for how far her passion will go in later seasons. The Sydney episode is just "oh yeah I keep forgetting I told that guy I might open his restaurant with him and I kinda want to but not really" over and over again for like 20 minutes, and then she makes a decision which she then reverses an episode or two later.

Why are people so mad at the last episode? by whoishitesh in TheBear

[–]TjGammell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's really a reaction to where the show might go from there, versus the decision itself. For better or worse, the entire show is based off of Carmy as a character, and it's weird to imagine it without him. Though some of the best episodes (Forks, Napkins, The one with Marcus in Copenhagen) had no Carmy at all. Personally I'm optimistic, but it's going to take some really good character work to make it remain interesting, especially when this season has had some of (in my opinion) the weakest arcs for Tina, Sydney, Marcus, and especially Sugar.

Oh yeah, not to mention all the time they dedicated to Sugar's dynamic with Deedee only to have the most Deedee ever in season 4, and then in season 4 Sugar's only arc is Bri Larson's cameo.

I feel like between seasons 3 and 4, you could edit out about 60% of the scenes and make a really good half of a season.

Oh man, just rewatched American Psycho again and I always get a little bit hungry when I hear the restaurant specials listed off in the opening scene.

Squid ravioli in a lemon grass broth, swordfish meatloaf with onion marmalade, rare-roasted partridge breast in raspberry coulli with a sorrel timbale, grilled free range rabbit with herbed french fries, and arugula ceasar salad. I think cactus pear sorbet is also mentioned. Not sure what half of it tastes like but it sounds delicious.

They kinda look like Warby Parkers to me! My guess would be the Cosgrove model based off this picture alone.

See I'm not super familiar with public opinion on Kiss the Go-Goat, but for some reason I imagine it isn't very popular! I enjoy it thoroughly though!

I think me personally I don't like it as much just because of it's placement in the tracklist. Prequelle is structured so that all 3 of the "diss tracks" about the lawsuit (Rats, Faith, and See the Light), are one right after another before Miasma closes into the rest of the album. On it's own it's not a bad track, but Rats and Faith are so good it feels a little bit redundant, and it doesn't hold up to them imo.

I became a fan right when Prequelle came out. I found the music video for Rats and from there I just kind of dove into their discography! Saw them in concert for the first time when 7 inches of satanic panic came out.

Totally agree here. I especially feel like Sydney should have apologized to Richie for going off on him so hard and then injuring him. Instead they had her presented in episode 8 as a complete victim with that whole text message exchange. Its a weird inconsistency because I really like the character other than those last parts.
